Roy Mustang wrote:Yes, that is Brad Swaile. Who did the voice of Quatre in Gundam Wing.

bakura_fan wrote:lol. nice. good choice since quatre did have his *insane* moment for a time. ^^, Who does Ryuk? He sounds so familiar...but I just can't place him!! >_<
Additionally, it's nice to see a darker anime making a televised run. Most of the stuff you usually see is so brightly colored and has that shounen-y feel, but this show has a much darker atmosphere with more polished animation. 'Course, as I haven't watched AS in about a year, I'm probably forgetting something, but suffice it to say that I think it's a nice change for televised anime. XD

KhakiBlueSocks wrote:I was kinda hoping to see the mysterious L in the first episode, but I can see why they left him out except for the opening credits--gives the viewer a chance to absorb what they just seen.
mitsuki lover wrote:I thought episode 1 was an overrated mediocre piece of crap for the following reasons:
Music:
Opening Theme:This was rather a bit of unmemorable J-Pop.Not as good as the jazzy opening to Boogiepop Phantom and definitely not as good as
Tokko's opening theme 'Nothing'.
Background Music:Overstated. The fact is it was at one point too loud.
When Light was in his room I half expected to hear O,Fortuna break out!
Closing Theme:There was one?!
Art:This was probably the best part of the episode.
Characters:
Light:Drama Queen who has the infernal habit of internalizing everything.
Once he realized he was the Villian he should have stopped it.I mean the habit is annoying and I would really have loved to see him get punched in the nose once because he is such an annoying brat!
Light's Mom:Totally useless to the episode. They could have done the entire episode without her and no-one would have noticed the difference!
Ryu:Why are the Shimgami so durn UGLY?They could use beauty tips from the Hollows on Bleach!
Plot:There was one? This was so full of holes that you could have flown the
Enterprise through it.
Overall rating::thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow
Barf City!
Hopefully the rest of the eps.won't be as insultingly poorly constructed as this one.
Radical Dreamer wrote:Good grief, ML. If you hated the episode that much, why even bother posting about it? You're being far too negative, and that's an understatement. And the plot is full of holes? In the first episode? I think I'm just too shocked that you're complaining about Death Note's plot, while you watch InuYasha...but then, it may be best not to go down that road.
Opening theme: I rather think the opening theme fits the show well, and doesn't sound too bad, to boot. Though I'd consider it "J-Rock" before I'd say it was J-Pop.
Closing theme: Yes, there was one. Perhaps you'd have noticed it if you weren't so bent on being so negative about the show at large.
Light: Yes, he IS the villain. What you probably have yet to realize is that in Death Note, the antagonist is the main character. The protagonist has yet to be introduced. This is a theme not unlike that of Shakespeare's Macbeth, so think twice before you start bashing it so ruthlessly.
Light's Mom: So she didn't have a huge role in the episode, so what? Is the author of the series not allowed to make Light seem like a real character, with a family? Or would you rather him be a flat, lifeless character? Wait, maybe you shouldn't answer that. And for the record, she does have a reason for being in the episode. It's how Light discovers that he's the only one who can see Ryuk.
Ryuk: And since when are "gods of death" supposed to be beautiful? Since when does any anime character have to look beautiful? I think you're missing the point on that one, entirely.
Plot: I can't even believe you're claiming there's no plot. It's like...InuYasha...and you claim there's no plot. My gosh.
And I love how you call the episodes "insultingly poorly constructed." Honestly, the only thing that's insultingly poorly constructed is your post on the matter. Geeze.

MasterDias wrote:Unlikely. The only other company who has ever cared about Shonen Jump properties is Funimation, and Viz is heavily connected to Shueisha so I strongly suspect that they are much more likely to win the licenses on popular Jump series like Death Note.
