Had a surgery, and going for seconds...

Postby Slater » Thu Oct 18, 2007 2:03 pm

Hey guys.

This past week, I developed some very serious infections in my mouth. This formed what we knew to be at least one abscess. Therefore, I needed surgery to have it lanced and drained, since medications don't work on abscesses.

So, yesterday I had the first one, and it was the most hellish thing I've ever gone through. You'd think that sedation would help, but I think it was the worst thing ever... when they sedate the abscess, they are adding a volume of liquid into it. An increase of fluid volume with the size of the abscess staying generally the same = more pressure... This was absolutely the most painful thing I have ever felt, especially considering I needed 5 syringes full of sedative... my head literally felt like it was going to explode.

But... the surgery was successful, and they drained the main abscess that was visible. I felt much better afterwards...

However... Now, another similar abscess has been found, and I will be undergoing the same procedure again in about 2 or 3 hours... I am very scared, just because I know what's coming, and how much pain there will be from this... It's not something I want to repeat, but I know I have to if I ever want this to heal... Please, pray for me... I'm going to need all the strength I can get...

This fear... Maybe some of it is natural, but this much that I have been feeling...? I don't think so.

I believe that I'm being tested. Sounds wacko, maybe...

I mean, why should I be scared? There are people all over the world who would give anything to get this level of medical treatment. And I'd be a fool not to get it done, cause then the problem would only get worse. I should be more scared of NOT having it done than the opposite.

I am--deeply thankful that this is going to be done; thankful to God. My dentist, who will probably be doing the incision and draining this time, is a Christian too. Sure, it won't be fun with a little temporary pain, but if God guides his hands and Jesus walks with me into the operating room... Everything will get better.

Amen.

Is anesthesia not an option? If it's that painful, you might just want to ask them to put you under.

Well, Dentist did nothing. Found the source tho, through a few quick x-rays. Need root canal therapy treatment; nerves inside of a tooth are entirely dead due to "injury," which means my braces were too tight. Good going, my orthodontist! You give the medical personal around here good practice on rare scenerios.

So, went home after picking up antibiotics. Directions on bottle said to take on a full stomach. So I go, eat some chicken, talk with mom... you know where I going.

After about 10 or 15 minutes, I taste bloody discharge in mouth. Yes, abscess had been opened by natural process. So, I drained it as best as I could, much to my mother's displeasure (she's a nurse, but doesn't like to see family members bleeding like that). I -think- I got most of the infectious material out, so yay.

I'm sorry you have to go through this --root canals are no fun! (But having my wisdom teeth out was no big deal at all --hardly any pain --and the drugs were nice...(^: )
