Big Mac beats 10 Commandments

Yes,it would have been nice if Moses had a savvy PR firm write a jingle for the 10 Commandments,now wouldn't it?

It couldn't have been Burger King, the Whopper has tomatoes, and the Big Mac doesn't. Also the Whopper doesn't have special sauce, just ketchup and mustard. And it doesn't have two beef patties. The Double Whopper does, but not the regular Whopper.

Woohoo! Vindication... thanks guys! (As sad as it is that I remember it. That jingle must have been in use for at LEAST 15 years.) My original arguement still stands then.

This may surprise some of you, but I actually think it's a good thing the Commandments aren't as publicized. A theocracy is not a good thing at all as Islamic countries have certainly shown us.

I wouldn't consider a privately sponsered ad campaign, such as the "God Messages" campaign, as theocratic... more as just informative of the stance of a group of people within the nation. It wouldn't be preventing any other group from stating their views in advertising media as well (which already happens, by the Mormon church especially).

We advertise everyone else and we arn't considered a burgerocracy, or a coffeeocracy or a truck-ocracy. (Though this may be the opinion some people who have little experience with the US percieve us as.) So I don't see an issue, other than the alteration of the image of the church or christians or clarification of some of the knowledge some people have abotu the church.

The only REAL issue I see is if there was a huge hissy fit over the order of the commandments in the ad campaign, showing how silly, petty and schismed the church actually can act.

Having thought about this a bit more, I don't think it bothers me that much. The reason Americans know the ingredients of a Big Mac is just advertising. As for the commandments, I don't think they should be considered the central tenet of Christianity in the first place. As EricTheFred pointed out, they're really just a construction.

Look at the Old Testament and tell me that was all bad. :p

But the OT theocracy was "God as king" not "religious leaders as king" which makes all the difference.

Let me help you out a bit here, people. Apparently we all know the Ten Commandments better than fast food burger ingredients. Yea Us.

The ingredient listed by the OP are mis-identified as a Big Mac's ingredients. They are instead the ingredients of a standard-issue Whopper by Burger King.

The Ingredients of the Big Mac are in the well-known jingle, "2 all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun."

Heh. I haven't actually had a Big Mac or a Whopper in over twenty years, and apparently my faulty memory (see previous posts) proves why. McDonald's advertising has utterly failed to take root in my brain.

Um...here's where I get tomatoes, pickles, and a sesame seed bun thrown at me, but who the heck cares? What are you gonna do, drill the Ten Commandments into kids' heads at school every day? Actually, the first four commandments deal with our relationship with God and the last six commandments deal with our relationship with human beings.(And this for Protestants ten commandments mind you. So if you meant some other version of the ten commandments then Im trully sorry.) Yeah its nitpicky and Im sorry about that.

You know, that's actually a significant problem for many Christians today. We live in a culture that encourages one to be overly focused on oneself. Christians have countered this by pointing out that we are all miserable sinners who deserve an eternity of torment. It's easier if you divide the Commandments into two groups of five,and in any case the way I heard it was the way I divided it (first five Godward and second five Manward).

Though it is a bit silly to quibble over which way to divide them.
I was thinking of this when watching Enterprise on Monday and it was the episode where the aliens take over the ship(off topic:can't

get taken over?)any way the leader was telling Archer the difference between themselves(the Orthodox) and the enemy(the Heretics).Turns out the difference was the Orthodox believed the Expense was created in 9 days while the Heretics said it was 10 days!

The point here was that during the Spanish Inquistion many people were
peresecuted as Heretics simply because they used the Protestant as opposed to the Catholic means of dividing the 10 Commandments.Which in and of itself is totally absurd,if you brother to think about it.I don't think God worries about how the 10 Commandments are divided up as long as we live our lives according to the spirit that is within them.
