I haven't heard it called that in a long time. It's usually refered to as "Chinese Taipei" now when it isn't being called Taiwan.

Really? I've usually heard it called Formosa.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge

Go Taiwan. Hopefully the US will stick to its guns and not abandon you to communism like we have so many other nations.

One day late Happy Birthday to the ROC.

Technically though the PRC claims Taiwan is a break away province. This is why Bejing gets all out of joint whenver it looks like the ROC is about to state
it's total independence from the mainland.Though I highly doubt that they would actually go to war over it.

Well, Happy Independence Day to whatever we shall call it! Shouldn't we get off school for this day? I think so. I'm going to go mail President Bush about this.
