How about some Christian sayings

The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

More than that, it would be a direct violation of the First Amendment, which states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. It's not so much "liberal atheists" as it is the founders of our country that did not want this.

Which would lead to what you said, and I agree, the only way to have prayer in schools would be to make them "generic" prayers void of any faith in God or Christ...empty prayers, useless prayers.

"Oh Great Deity or deities of multiple genders who may or may not exist..."

That's pretty much what it would be like.

By the way, you guys DO realize part of the reason people fled to this country was because the Church of England was the official religion of England, and the Puritans didn't like that, right? Our country was founded to specifically AVOID having a national religion, to avoid what happened in England.
Sorry, I'm just not a fan of "fortune cookie" devotionals

Hey, we agree on something! What gives? I demand an explanation for this!

Now to stay on topic...

Some quotes that I've always stuck to in the past years.

“C.S. Lewis says there are two kinds of people in this world: Those who bend their knee to God and say to him 'Your will be done', or those who refuse to bend their knee to him and he says 'Alright, then your will be done'. Every person in their eternal destiny will be exactly where he or she has chosen to be. And that is as fair as one can be because to give a person the dignity of freedom, and then to violate it just to make freedom an illusive thing or an illusionary thing.”

"The biggest difference between Jesus Christ and ethical and moral teachers who have been deified by man, is that these moralists came to make bad people good. Jesus came to make dead people live."

-Ravi Zacharias

"Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."
-C.S. Lewis

"We live our lives saturated with abundance, and it brings us to a deadness of soul and to spiritual apathy. And the attitude of this generation is 'been there, done that, got the hat, got the t-shirt, who cares?'"
-Stuart Mcallister

And I leave it at that.

Something our preacher said this morning: "God created time, but man created the watch."
Meaning that God created time, but we try to put God on our watch instead of His perfect timing.

Disturbing as this is for me to say, Nate, your comments were just dead on and hillariously ironic. *Stamps Temuoplis seal of approval on Nate's post and everyone who posted a Lewis quote*

Ahem... okay, back on topic. I shall contribute some quotations of Lewisy goodness to ponder over (other than the one in my sig... hehheh):

"Everyone feels benevolent if nothing happens to be annoying him at the moment." - The Problem of Pain

"God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." - The Problem of Pain

"Those that hate goodness are sometimes nearer than those that know nothing at all about it and think they have it already." - The Great Divorce

Well we just studied the Pilgrims(AKA Separatists) and the puritains. The Pilgrims wanted to separate from the church of england so that they could have religious freedom. But the Puritains wanted to "Purify" the church of england so they came to America to do so, and this was because the Church of England's practices were too much like that of the Catholic church. So in the end they came to America to do so, but in the end the puritains became congregationalists.

So really Nate most of the people that came here were because they wanted to religion their own way not necessarilly because they wanted to have nothing to do with religion. But of course there were those that came for other reasons like gold and land. But it was mainly because of religious freedom.

But later came other people who thought differently and thats where it changed the nation.(I probably am wrong about this.)

What's my point? I really don't know myself. But the way you put it, it sounded like they just wanted to have nothing to do with God and such. And if you didn't mean that please be a bit clearer.

Ok, my statement for today...

Well what it means in my opinion is not that it literaly means that it is agains the law, but that at times pier pressure form all around you can make you feel so closed up in a box that you feel like it is against the "law" , or in other words, the law set by the people around you that really get bothered by you doing something religious. What this mainly expresses is that people are okay with things that would have been considered satanic back some years ago I have heard, but things that have to do with GOD seem to be disliked or preferably not tempered with. My teacher wont even say yes to someone that asked him to pray for her about something I cant recall, even though I think he is a Christian... well anyways I wish I could correct it to make it sound less persecutive and more of pier preasurish, but I my edit button is gone!!!!waa, once I post something it wont let me edit it I dont know why, but maybe I will post a better version of it and see if you like it better. okay,,, sory to have bothered you... I didm't mean not

thanks for the pardon, here is something I have allways like to say.
"GOD is not distant and angry, but the complete expression of love"
I can't remember were it is in the BIBLE but I think it is beautifull, especially for those who think that GOD doesn't care about them.
(if you know the verse please tell me), I watched it on Fathers Love Letter, it is a really beautifull powerpoint on gospel greeting.com

12Praise, oh no problem. I wasn't picking on you specificly. Taking the poem in context of peer pressure (and I am well aware of how anti-Christian most liberal public schools are) is a better interpretation of it. As for the teacher not praying... I don't really think that's appropriate for the student to ask. In a workplace, it would probably go down as religious discrimination.

But anyway *kills debate before it starts*, it is important to remember God in schools that often tend to have double-standards where religion is concerned.

O.o;; I'm not sure on the verse on your last quote - but I like it! Reminds me of the verse(I think) that goes something like "Love is patient, love is kind, love endures forever"... wait isn't that a John Tesh song? *Walks of pondering and wondering why Nate is suddenly having good quotes*

P.S. Joe Cool is like the Aslan of Peanuts, I swear.

Now,can it be possible that in a handful 0f centuries that the Christian
character has fallen away from an imposing heroism that scorned even
the stake, the cross, and the axe,to a poor little effimancy that withers and wilts under an unsavory smell?

this a cool poem I think

GOD hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways,
All our lives Through;
GOD hath not promised,
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.

But GOD hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the labor,
Light for the way,
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.
