That Dude wrote:I'm pretty sure that I'd have been diagnosed as having ADHD when in fact I just don't like having crap forced down my throat and I'd rather actually use my brain to learn. (Good thing I was homeschooled.)
As an actual ADHD sufferer, I'm not entirely certain what this was supposed to mean, but I can assure you that there is a wide difference between this perception and actual ADHD.
I'm guessing that you are referring to a common, serious misconception of ADHD as being an excuse created by teachers in order to 'drug-down problem children.' This piece of propaganda by anti-educational-system demagogues completely ignores the fact that typical ADHD medicines are stimulants, not tranquilizers.
I need my medication, not because I'm some kind of addict (since I regularly run out and go several days before getting my prescription refilled, I know darned well I'm not addicted. After kicking the nicotine habit about ten years ago, I'm very familiar with what withdrawal is like) but because I would lose my job if I tried to go without it for very long. When my ADHD is in control, I'm just not a reliable employee.
Please be careful what you believe about this, or any other disability which has been plastered with a negative label. You may find yourself accidentally offending an actual victim of it.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.
