Can't taste anything! D:

Uggh, don't you just hate that, when you've got a cold or bad allergies and you can't taste anything you eat?

That's what it's like for me this morning. My allergies have got me so stuffed up that the breakfast bar I ate had absolutely no taste, just texture. And here my brain is screaming "WHERE IS YOUR DELICIOUSNESS?!?!?" :(
Yet, I can still slightly taste my flavored water, probably because it's carbonated...

It's like a kick in the butt. *glances over to the chocolate bar next to her* I want to eat it so badly, but I would really like to be able to taste what I'm eating...:shady:

When I get a bad cold, about all I can taste is spicy - so I eat lots of flaming hot cheat-ohs or hot and spicy soup.

It has the added bonus of making the nose run and clearing out stuffy. At least for me. YMMV

Since I never pass up a chance to discuss the gross...

First, the science you probably already know, just in case: Your sense of taste is largely a sense of smell. You can only taste some very basic characteristics. Everything you think of as 'taste' is actually smells wafting up through your post-nasal passages into your smeller from your mouth. That's why tastes 'develop' as you chew, or swish a beverage around your mouth, or whatever. You are kicking up smells that were originally locked inside the food.

So... you can help yourself out by clearing the path. Assuming you can (sometimes a cold is so bad you can't do this), blow your nose before eating, and take a break or two during the meal to repeat. It seriously does help.

Also, Mithrandir's suggestion, since it has the benefit he mentioned, is a good choice for the appetizer. Get yourself the hottest bag of snacks you can stand and wolf that down first, then clear your nose.

Get well soon!
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Considering I get a lot of colds, I have to take the advice of Eric. Blow you nose as much as possible.

But still, I can never eat macaroni while having a cold. It's utterly tasteless. >_<

yeah, that usually happens around this time of year. i'm quite surprised i haven't gotten sick since school started. i usually get sick near the beginning of the year. well, it'll happen sooner or later. colds, where your nose is dripping every five minutes, are the worst.

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. Ouchness! That happens to me EVERY time I get a stuffy nose! Everything tastes the same to me! I heard somebody say that astronauts have the same sort of affliction when they get up in space.

::looks at chocolate bar and shrugs:: No point in letting this go to waste.

Oy. I hope things change for you soon. I know what you're going through.

Actually, I think I'm battling my own case of allergies right now...and it's totally logical since I used to not go outside much with homeschooling and now I'm outside most everyday with college.

But yeah; I really hope you get better soon. And I also want to push for the spicy foods. Just make sure that it's not so spicy that you'll be running for the nearest waterfall to douse the flames. :)
