When A Hacker Strikes

Postby mitsuki lover » Thu Sep 20, 2007 12:17 pm

Has this ever happened to anyone else here or at another forum?:
You log on and you see you got a message in your PM box.The sender
looks legit because he is using the username of someone on the forum.
So you log in to the PM to see what they have to say.Instead you find yourself being instantly hacked.:sniffle:
That is precisely what happened to me one day at Abhnations Forum.
In the end I had to have my password changed. To be on the safe side I just recently changed in there again, just to be certain.

How do you mean, you find yourself being instantly hacked?

If I had to guess, I would guess that the person sending the PM is using some kind of either a cross-site scripting hack (to hack your account on that server), or is using a javascript based hack (to hack your local machine and/or router).

First things first, do you have a DSL/Cable router? If so, be sure you've change the default password!!! If you haven't, go and do it now. If you can't login, you've got bigger problems.

I don't know how the hacker got in but it ended up that the Admin there had to tell everyone to change their passwords.Needless to say I have become a bit more nervous about getting PMs there after that expierence.

... and she wonders why I don't go back there anymore o_O
