Short? Smart? Blame Big Your Bro!

Seriously.

"Study reveals how having an older brother can make you shorter"

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2007/sep/13/genetics?gusrc=rss

Personally, I think being a little shorter would be an O.K. trade-off for being a little smarter.

From the experience of having a younger sibling, I wonder how much of the short stature is actually related to "getting less food" and how much of it is related to just constantly running it off trying to keep up with 'the big kids.' That could have something to do with the I.Q. Seems to me kids with older siblings want to do everything the older kids do. They might get a lot more verbal practice, etc., at a young age.

*edit* And yes, I do realize (belatedly) that I got the title wrong.

People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

the article wrote:And studies of more than 240,000 military records by Petter Kristensen, of the University of Oslo, and Tor Bjerkedal, of Norway's armed forces, suggested that firstborn, compared with younger siblings, have a statistically higher IQ, up 2.3 points.

The article doesn't suggest it's a trade-off.

I'm in the middle of six. And I look like I'm the oldest, I'm taller than my older brother, but my brother right below me is the tallest. So apparently once again I manage to break the mold.

I don't see how height and intelligence has anything to do with birth order unless it has something to do with biochemistry.

"Blame big your bro?" Sounds like Engrish!

I only have one sibling (a sister), 14 months older than me, but I'm taller than her. I'm about 5' 5" and she's a whopping 4' 11-1/2".

I don't know. In some ways my brother is still smarter than me. Darn IQ hog! (JK) Well, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and they should be celebrated (like the theory of multiple intelligences).
