That was.... O.o;;;
It might be a joke, Noz, but its not unlikely that there really could be some manic (possibly a parent) who really thinks anime is the cause of all America's problems.
It wasn't the world's most well-made petition tho, because they only had two examples, and only had evidense from one, and it was pretty stupid. So, we're not capable of love? That's news to me. <.<;;;

In Looney Tunes you have male characters kissing other males, violence, suicide, and insults not fit for young ears. Why aren't they banning that? I just don't get it...they act like anime is solely a porn tool. Don't they realize that the Internet they used to post that is swimming with nasty porn and other such horribilities?...(sigh)...funny thing is, I'm not the biggest fan of anime. My sister shows me the good stuff, and I'm slowly learning. But even from just the animes I've watched, I can tell this is COMPLETELY unfounded. It makes me ashamed to be in the same country as these prejudiced, upstuck, punks from the boulevard farm as they stand off and hurl untruths at us. This...is wrong....

Sorry...that needed to come out...

Did you read some of what people who signed it wrote?
Most of them are bashing the Pettition. Its kind of funney. Personaly I dont think trying to make Anime the Scapegoat for how our country is moraly corrupt is very mature. Though there are tastless anime, it is no differant if not less effective than, the sex you see every where else in our media today. Movies, commercials, TV, even music. Pick your least favorit and make a pettition..........

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

The petition certainly does seem too badly written and constructed to be serious, but unfortunately that hasn't stopped people before.

That is rediculous it's just not funny... All the response I read seem to be against the petition NOT the anime!

I myself am sure it is a joke. I will continue to firmly believe this, as I do not wish to accept that people can be that stupid.

In any case, glad it brought you here.

Nah the ppl here would be too busy arguing over who's fault the Anime is - The Protestants or the Catholics. (Not Christian denoms by the way, but which gang by those names.)

To me - it looks like - the web page is attempting to get a rise out of someone. Perhaps, it was the project of a high school student or a cry for attention. It is poorly written and not worth anyone's time, to be frank.

No one is going to ban Anime and Manga - it is far too large a market now in the United States. ;)

The cause of all the problems. Right. Like the music world and movies and all that isn't more popular than anime here. Families need to take some responsibility for how they raise their children, and then maybe some problems might get worked out.

Point A: When and where have these Love Hina inspired rampages occured and how much NAMBLA material were the parties in possession of?
Point B: There is far worse filth available in anime, TV, film, comics, music, public schools, newspapers, ect. than the examples given.
Point C. see above post. We need to stop looking for scapegoats and admit how badly we have messed up our familes, children, nation and world with our own stupid actions and inactions.

Frighteningly enough, even if it was intended as a joke, somebody may take it seriously and take some kind of action. Look what happened in the late eighties when some bored Washington wives decided to start reading the lyrics to the albums their kids were buying and watching the MTV their kids were watching. (PMRC)

Please excuse my apparently cynicism, but if you stated "all Christians are hypocrites" that would imply either that you were not Christian or admitted you were a hypocrite. So tell me, am I being too analytical, or did your philosophical views change due to this site?

my whole thinking about the american christian here in america changed since I came by this website. I grew up in another country so what I heard from my old new york freind who now resides in my country, that ALL Christians are hypocrites and closed-minded fools, now that I'm here I've proven that stereotype is waaaaaaaaaaay wrong.

Well, we're glad you changed your mind, Supa. If only many of the people on that link would open their minds as much as you have and realize that Christians aren't actually sign-waving, bible-thumping, legalistic hypocrites. It's things like that website that do nothing apart from give Christians (and Christianity itself) a bad name.

That second site just made me laugh.

Here is their definition of cultural relativism: "In recent years there has been a growing trend amongst radical youth elements of American society for cultural relativism, the foolish belief that other cultures have something to offer." So believing that other cultures have something to offer makes you a cultural relativist?

That is fairly mild compared to most of the rant. The only thing I liked was the phrase "liberal filthmonger," that one made me laugh. I can just imagine the reaction I would get if I called one of my conservative friends that name. :lol:

That article is such blatent fabrication.. and I think I've seen it before. Unfortunately it only reminds me of an attitude that I find utterly repulsive - the whole idea of America being the only true Christian culture, dripping with good values and virtue. That is a lie, which some people actually BELIEVE.

If in real life I ever meet anyone who holds that opinion and expresses it, they better run away really fast. I'd find it pretty hard to contain my anger.
