Embarassing Newbie Moments

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Flying Tigers » Mon Oct 10, 2005 7:38 pm

Well I did a have moment but it was more of a mad moment. I a made the mistake of saying politics in my first thread so whathisname shut down my thread. :shady:

Actually, you didn't just SAY politic, you made a political thread, and according to the rules you agreed to upon membership of this site, that's not allowed. So perhaps if you had paid more attention to the FAQ you wouldn't have found yourself so upset by it.

Mangafanatic wrote:If you go and look at my first post ever on CAA, you'll see what my most interesting and amusing newbie moment was. Well, you see, after only having ever met ONE Christian fan of anime, I simply couldn't believe that CAA was what it seemed it was: a place for Christian fans of anime to fellowship. So, my first post is like "Christian anime alliance? Christian-- as in, the religious affiliation?"

I guess I figured it was a fan ring for some VA named Christian or something.

Did you know that you've made 500 posts since July?

Anyway, when I joined, I persented myself a bit less maturely than I (think I) was. I also tended to misread user names.

I think the mods got mad at me when I started mailing copies of Mao-Chan to them.

Bahahaha, I remember when I first joined KH2.net, it took me forever to figure out what "XD" meant. That's sad, considering the fact that it's one of my most commonly used emoticons these days. XD Also, KH2.net...Wow, THAT was a...place. My first "forum-ish" place, really. It was more of a fan art board where you could make comments and go WAY off topic without being called down by mods (mainly because there were only 3 mods, and they never did anything). XD Anyways, that was my first experience (ever) with needing to defend my faith against yaoi (and yuri) fangirls...Gah. Things got icky soon. XD I still go back from time to time to make a point or two, or to reply to all of the secular humanists and their cheap shots. -.- I remember making like, two posts that were flaming (hah), but after that, I did nothing but debate, debate, debate...I almost got sick of the internet! o.o But then I found this place, so it's aaaaall good. XD

It took me awhile to figure out what a lot of expressions meant. XD, pwn/pwned, avvy, sig, along with others that I can't remember, but now I know most of them, I think. Before I joined my first forums, I lurked on it for a month or two, it helped me get used to the forum feel. But since June of this year(when I joined my first forum) I've gotten used to it. There's still stuff I don't know, but I'll figure it out eventually, I hope.

Urban Dictionary helped me avoid some unnecessary newbie moments. Look there.

Well probably gravedigging!XD (Sorry for gravedigging this, I just thought that maybe some other members would like to share their newbie experiences, you know the people who didn't post in this thread before. Also I didn't want to make a new thread for fear that it might be locked because there already being a thread like this.)
Also another mistake I made was sometimes mistaking someone for the opposite gender they really are, I mean before I came to CAA. Because this is the only forum Ive come across that actually has your gender in your posts and user names. Another mistake was not know what certain acronyms meant like XD, FTW, n00bs(Sorta ironic isn't it?) and various others.

None I can think of beyond putting a topic in the wrong thread. XD Ah, new forums. Hard to move around at first.

I mistook several members' genders. It was rather embarrassing. XD

How ironic that I've done that too. XD

Oh, and mixing up ages. I don't know how many 12 year olds I though were 18 year olds and 18 year olds being 30 year olds. XD

My blatant athiesm and shinto dabbling at the time were probably my biggest "LOLTROLL" moments, which I consider quite noobish :thumb: (now, anyway . . . )

but really, just read my intro thread. I was such a noob....

Does not knowing what forums were (despite having joined one), and then thinking it was some kind of massive mailing list, count as a "newbie moment"?

It was personally embarrassing because I actually have a Ba. in Computer Science. And that's before I joined CAA. :)

I accidentally posted a pic. in the wrong thread, making it look like I was claiming that I drew a piece of official art. That was about five layers of embarrassing.

I don't remember any outstanding newbie moments. Though there are still some embarassing things that I don't know. Like, despite being here longer than %80 percent of the members I still don't know how to make a picture for the sig. That and I always have trouble with the qoutes, spoilers, and hotlinking.

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

One of my first posts in this forum was put in the wrong section. And I am a notoriously bad speller.
