I know there have already been threads about this, but I figured I should make a new one instead of grave digging. I just finished the series, and it was absolutely amazing. I guess I'm a bit biased because I'm a dancer and love classical music though. The dancing was drawn wonderfully, the music was used very well, and the way the fairy tales/ballets are incorporated and interpreted is amazing. At first the title turned me off to the series, but seeing some good reviews on CAA made me want to check it out. I am so very glad I did. If you like dance, classical music, or fairy tales, you should definitely check this out. I even got my mom who says she doesn't like cartoons completely hooked. The three-dimensional character development really draws you in too.

I got hooked on it when I seen the last four episodes at Otakon.
I tried to find it in the dealer's room but I was told most of the series is out of print. The first DVD is but the other are still for sell but I want all the DVDs.
I just learned that the series will come out Nov 20, 2007 as a slim pack series set so I have to wait till then. I plan to get two sets one for my grand nieces for Christmas and one for me.

It is a wonderful series. It reminded me how great classical music really is. By the way, have you checked out the 'favorite amv' forum thread? They mentioned a few princess tutu amvs that are worth seeing if you liked the series:

And the great thing about the thinpak is that ADV will not be stripping it of the extras. This is one title where the extras are well worth it.

I started purchasing this series when volume 1 first came out. ADV discontinued it for almost a year which was very frustrating. It's great that those just now coming into it don't have to wait. It's a wonderful series.

I've heard so much good about this series... but as a guy, the title of the show is telling me "stay far away".

Trust me, this is something you should not judge by its cover (or title). Princess Tutu is actually the name of the main character's alter-ego. I held back because of the title, but I'm so glad I finally watched it. It has so much character and plot depth. If you notice, three of the five people who have praised the show in this thread are guys.

I would say go to Youtube and check out the AMVs done to Princess Tutu to get an idea about the series. Thou it may have spoilers if you do.

I loved, everything about this series, except...

*hold up shield*

The ending.

The entire series had done a well paced build up of characters and story, it made you want to see the next episode after the next, and the eventual climax was immense as I had imagined.

But...

Even though the climax was done very well, the ending's resolve left me wanting. It didn't feel complete.

Otherwise, it's one of the best Anime I've ever seen.

Yeah I agree I didn't care for the ending of the series. I was hoping for a happy fairytale type of ending for once and they didn't deliver at all. It's didn't feel complete and I was personally really made about what happened with my favorite coupling in the show.

I strongly disagree with you guys about the ending. Very very strongly. >3<

I hated and yet loved the ending BECAUSE it wasn't the happy ending everyone was expecting. For me, if it didn't end the way it did, then this anime would be forgettable to me.

To me, the ending solidly confirms that they are no longer in a fairy tale world where the princess gets the prince and everyone lives happily ever after. It wouldn't fit if everything went back to normal, but Ahiru got to magically remain a girl, even though it isn't her true form. I can imagine that they could have ended it with her inexplicably keeping her human form, but then it would be such a cheezy cop-out. "It was the power of love made everything all ok again." I'm kind of tired of that excuse.

On that note, what would happen to Rue? Would she fade into the background like in the first season? No, and I'm glad, though it was a little bittersweet.

The ending hurts, but it is very striking and it ties up very nicely, I think.

I wouldn't mind adding it to my personal collection.I mean I already have vol.1 of Full Moon.I don't see Princess Tutu as being too different.
