Best anime line?

Postby Aleolus » Mon Aug 27, 2007 10:30 pm

OK, what line do you think is the most memorable from all the anime you watch, and what about it makes it memorable?

For me, I would have to say (I know, sorry!) "Will you bear my child?", the most infamous line from the InuYasha series, given countless times by Miroku, the perverted monk. The reason I find it so memorable is because a) How often it occurs, and b) Sango's reaction to his asking!
"Please stand down, I don't want meaningless bloodshed!" chaos-Xenosaga

"Who are you?"
"If I knew that, I wouldn't be suffering." - Hakuro, Utawarerumono

"Dirty thoughts are bad!" Mahoro, Mahoromatic

To me, one of the lines that lodged in my mind was said by Haruka in RahXephon when she says "It's not as black as the devil or sweet as love, but it's coffee, right?"
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

A natural choice for me:

"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one and only truth."
- Alphonse Elric, Full Metal Alchemist

I don't know why it has stuck with me all these years but...

From an episode of Ranma 1/2 after Ranma and Akane are at odds (again). Akane is coming out of a movie with her friends and as they talk about how romantic it was they ask Akane how she felt about it and she replies...

"She would have been better off with a dog."

I don't know why but I just found that response to be hilarious.

"Office Workers, Saving The World!" - Dai-Guard. (It's pretty much the slogan of the show... and a pretty thorough description of the plot, too.)

"I've caught you, Cat's Eye!" (Said innumerable times, with some slight variations, by Toshio and others throughout the series, Cat's Eye.)

"Once again I have cut a worthless object" (Goemon Ishikawa's catch-phrase in Lupin III).
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

"If anyone does not love the Lord, Jesus Christ, let him be accused. Oh Lord, come. Amen"

-Alexander Anderson - Hellsing Ultimate I

Ok, the funny thing about this is that he quotes 1 Cor 16:22.....in English.

Not Latin, not Japanese...English. And it is totally obvious that the voice actor has no idea what he is saying and is quoting phonetically. All the words are run together and it just comes off as comical to me because Anderson has his psycho grin the whole time.

Having realized that I gave a line each from the 70s the 80s and the 90s, but nothing from the 2ks. I've decided to add a line that also appears in my signature:

"Ukele no good!" - Haruka Haruhara, FLCL.
Said in a Tarzan-like manner after she has confronted a monster without her bass guitar (her usual weapon) and instead whacked it with a ukele grabbed out of the hands of a bystander. Naturally, it had little effect. (Her bass guitar would have done a much better job.)
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

In this case, it's more like a joke you either get, or you don't.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.

I've been having a surprising amount of trouble coming up with a line to post. But for the sake of general oddity:
"Oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi!"

My favorite lines:

"I can't believe they killed the main character in the first scene!!!"
-Some random guy from Excel Saga

"Try not to fall down Keiko. If you do I'm about 98 percent sure that you'll die!"
-Shinobu, Ninja Nonsense (2x2=Shinobuden)

"Bang."
-Spike, Cowboy Bebop

And of course the Trust Dance from Shin Chan. I can't put the quote here because it's somewhat raunchy.

Kino: It's pretty interesting, isn't it?
Hermes: What is?
Kino: The way that when someone expresses something, someone else always shows up to interpret it. Maybe the world is just a series of such events.

Kino: A whale's sigh... The dreaming shooting star... It felt like that's what they were singing. While everything out there is changing, the sound of these insects chirping echos up to the sky. That's what I'm listening to right now. That's the only thing that's for certain.
Hermes: What's wrong, Kino?
Kino: Sometimes, travelers turn into poets, Hermes.

Both from Kino no Tabi.

Yes, I'm serious and boring. XD But I honestly love these quotes.

Number 66: Is that all you have to say?! A prisoner sentenced to death is alive here! You should be more surprised! And if a head comes off and an empty suit of armor moves, you should be more like, "Kyaaaa!" or "Aaaahhh!" or "What's up with your body?!" or-

*Al takes off his helmet to show that it's empty, 66 freaks out.*

Some of my favorite lines include:
When Lebia tells the other members of the AMP that there are only two places that haven't been hit by the blackout in the Silent Mobius ep.
'Alice In Logic Space'and they ask where the other one is she points to the obviously still operating AMP command center and says:"Isn't it
obvious?"
Another one is in the ep.'Lum Cheng'when they're leaving the aircraft
to combat the Lucifer Hawks and Yuki cattily says as Lum Cheng leaves:
"Good Luck Everyone...Well Almost Everyone!"
