Brother is strugling...

Postby Danderson » Thu Aug 30, 2007 6:25 am

Just wanted to offer up a prayer request for my younger brother...

This year satans been really playing tricks with his mind, making him doubt...It mainly has to do with numbers...like he feels like if he doesn't touch some object in a certain manner or a certain amount of times then he's not a Christian...It might sound funny, but it's a real struggle for him...Recently, he's been better, but he's still feeling the doubts rise up in him...Please pray for him...and for me, becuase he's actually coming to me for answers when he has these problems...

Thanks...

Will be praying...I kinda know these struggles, myself...
I know how hard it is to deal with this kind of thing.

This sounds like it could be a case of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which is never fun. *Is a psych major*

I'll keep both of you in my thoughts.

I will pray. The way it sounds is that he needs to get rid of that §religious" spirit ( not God's spirit, but as in, get rid of needing to do certain things excessively in order to have God love or pay attention to him, etc.. )

Maybe he needs to repent of some sins?
When I feel like that it usually means I have som unrepented sins in my history.

I will pray for you both. This sounds like how it is with me and my younger sister. She has doubts too and comes to me with questions all the time. I just pray that I will be a good example for her and will be able to help her grow with Christ like I have. :)

Well, the tides have turned.....The lies have been getting worse and it's to the point where my brothers thoughts and actions are under the control of these doubts that are being heaped on to him.....And it's being felt by the rest of us in our family.....And it's getting really serious....

He can't even be by himself for long without his mind instantly being fed lies that could only come from the enemy....We believe (and he believes as well) that he has believed Christ to be his personal Lord and Savior....but becuase he's at the point in his life where he needs to know which foundation his feet really are in, the devil has found that as an opprotunity to attack him where he's weakest....and it's just been getting worse....for all of us....

Please pray....Not only for him, but for my parents and even myself.....Thanks....

I totally know what you're brother is going through and I definitely will pray for him Danderson. Since this is probably the closest case to mine I've ever encountered, maybe some of this will help? I mean, it might not cure him right away, but it should at least make him feel better..

The Numbers. I've never mixed them with faith, but you can definitely tell him I've done it before. It's annoying and stupid, but it's a total case of OCD. Like before I get off the computer, not only do I make sure my computer is set up "just right" (and then repeatively check it when I know it's freaking fine), but I tend to click the mouse on the screen about four groups of four times...it makes no sense, it's stupid, it's annoying, but you really do feel like you're being drawn to do it. So on that, tell him he's not the only one. Since his happens to mix with faith though, I'd just tell him to pray on it and stop it. It may feel wrong at the time, but the more you say no, the more you stop letting the habits control you.

Feeling faithless? My parents have told me this about a billion times, and while it doesn't cure me up right away, I've found it helps a lot to hear. Atheists and non-believers don't care. They just don't. If they don't believe what do they do? "Oh...ok, so who cares, lets go look up porn or something wrong" and that's it! For him to fight back like this...it has to be faith! People who aren't Christians don't keep praying to Jesus, or reading their Bible, or keeping His rules. Non-believers just don't do that! The only reason Christians do any of that stuff is because they believe.

Now I'm sure you're thinking that sounds real obvious and he should know that, but trust me. He probably won't. When you're in a place like he is, it's very hard to see anything good. To just be alone, trying to relax, and then suddenly be hit by constant thoughts that try and make you say things you don't believe to be true...it's really enough to drive you nuts. It's like the only comfort you have is sleep, and even then you worry you might die and not go to heaven or something. x_x; Not fun times.

Lifting up your brother and your family.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

I'm sorry to hear about that Danderson :(. Your brother will most definately be in my prayers.

It does seem rather common to get Christian doubts. It used to happen a lot with me, but I've been learning to refuse them more and more.

Take care and God Bless!

Footprints in the sand by Carolyn Joyce Carty

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of foot prints in the sand: one belonging to him the other to the lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the foot prints in the sand.

He noticed that name times along the path of his life there was only one set o footprints.

He also noticed that it was at the lowest and saddest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the lord about it:

"lord, you said once i decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But i have noticed during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of foot prints. I dont understand why when i needed you most you would leave me."

The lord replied:

"My son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that i carried you."

I'll pray for him, you and your family. Why don't you try, if you haven't already, to load him up with as many verses you can find were JESUS OR GOD says in the Bible that He knows your heart, your inperfections, your sins, but still loves you. Oh, also show Him the verse, which I can't remember which one it is, but ask your preacher or someone, that says- nor storm, nor death can separate you from the love of GOD- this will let HIM know that nothing that he does can separate him from the love of GOD.

ha I found the verse!!!The verse is Romans 8: 35-39 , that reads, "who can seperate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written Because of YOu we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slauthered. No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height,, nor depth, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

by the way I was sort of like that for a while, not the doubt part, but the OCD part yes. I finally snapped out of it after many times that my dad yelled at me telling me how dumb and ridiculous I looked. Then I examined why I did it and came to the conclution that God loves me just the same even if I don't do all of these things
