Update about the new Macross project.

The new Macross series will be called Macross 25.

The story will be set in a school and don't expect animation quality like Macross Plus or Macross Zero.

I wonder if they're trying to copy Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I wouldn't think so, I guess they want to get younger fans into Macross.

Shows set in schools are popular right now. I'd wager that's the reason for the setting.

With the new Evangelion movies in the works, I don't believe that choice of settings is all that innocent.

Still, I'll take whatever Macross I can get, thank you!

It would also depend on what the main plotline is about.I mean if it's another
'schoolkids save the World'kinda thing then it would have to make you wonder.

I don't think Macross will do that. On what termyt said about shows set in schools are popular now, I agree with. Plus, I wonder if they want to try something new. But Macross did something new with Macross Seven and that failed.

I'm hope that it will be a UN Spacey training school and the story takes place right over Macross Zero.

School settings have been popular in Mech series for some time now. Full Metal Panic, Gundam Wing to a degree, Lelouch and the Rebellion. Practically a staple of the child pilot genre by now.

Reported on ANN.

At the Macross 25th Anniversary Live: Minmay meets Fire Bomber concert in Tokyo Saturday night, co-creator Shoji Kawamori (Escaflowne, Aquarion) and voice actor Sho Hayami (Max of the first Macross series) announced that Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, Macross Plus) will co-compose the music for the new Macross television series and that the heroine Ranka Lee will be played by Megumi Nakajima, an 18-year-old newcomer selected by a nationwide singing and acting audition in Japan.

Kawamori and Hayami also introduced a pilot film of the new Macross work, now tentatively titled Macross Frontier. The story in production takes place in "20XX A.D." on a galactic colonization fleet named Macross Frontier. Since music for the new Macross series is still being composed, Nakajima sang Kanno's "Voices" from Macross Plus in the concert. Mari Iijima (Lynn Minmay), Yoshiki Fukuyama (Macross 7's Basara's singing voice), Chie Kajiura (Macros 7's Mylene's singing voice), and Nobutoshi Hayashi (Basara's speaking voice) performed first solo and then together for the final songs. More details will be posted in the upcoming event report.

Yoko Kanno also composed the themes to RahXephon and Ghost In The
Shell:Stand Alone Complex(both seasons).
The novels spell Minmei's name M-I-N-M-E-I,so I wonder if the
M-I-N-M-A-Y is how the new series is spelling it or wheter the reporter who wrote it up was too lazy to check on spelling.

It has always been spelled M i n m a y in the Macross series and that's the true spelling of the name.

They only spelled it, M i n m e i in Robotech
