Paperback Books With Manga Art Covers

Postby ashfire » Sun Aug 12, 2007 11:56 am

A couple of times I have been in Borders Books I have noticed a couple of paperback books in the new book display with what looks to me to have had the covers done by a manga artist.
I should have gotten the titles of the books and the company that put them out but just didn't think about it.
I don't think they are anime or manga connected books but I guess when I go back in I will check them out a little better unless anyone else has seen them and knows what these books are?
They look to be fiction type stories.

Hmm...sounds like what I wanted to do; write a book, and do a manga-style pic for the cover art.

But that's kind of what it sounds like; a novel with manga-style cover art. I was looking online a while back and saw something like this; I think someone actually complained, saying it wasn't manga. (Haaa...)

My guess would be you find their display of Japanese "Light novels," often akin to American pulp paperbacks, and usually with character and/or scene illustration. So far, Seven Seas Entertainment seems to be the hub of the official English translations for these series.

Well Crest of the Stars and .hack//AI and Ghost In The Shell:Stand Alone Complex are all out in novels now so you may have seen some of those.
On the other hand it might be that the cover artists have been influenced by manga.

I got to Borders Books today and here is what I found.
http://www.dorchesterpub.com under the Romance paperbacks.
"Wired" by Liz Maverick and "Moongazer" by Marianne Mancusi
The books also say Shomi on the side where the book printer would be.
In some way the charactors look like the art from Tokko.
It looks like some other books may have the same art for the cover.
It looks like these books are a cross of Sci Fi and Romance type paperbacks along with the other books they put out.

I know Tokyopop prints at least a couple of those.

I think all of them are translations of Japanese novels, but I'm not sure. I remember I saw one that was based on the Devil May Cry video games.
I am going to hypnotize you with the Dancing Banana so that you all think my signature is wonderful and witty.
