Emery "I'm Only A Man", 10-2-07

Postby Dai-go » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:19 pm

Emery's droppin' a new album this October.
I just can't wait. I've only heard one song from them, and haven't bothered to check and see if they have anything else out. But that's all I'm hearing for now.

Go ahead and hear it:
http://www.purevolume.com/emery

For me personally, it sounds like a continuation of what they did with "The Question", only more rockin' dance music or somethin'. I dunno. Not a music reviewer, but somethin' tells me I'm gunna enjoy this album.

Opinions and comments welcome! :thumb:

I like some of their recorded stuff.

They were terrible live, though.

That's funny because all of the times I've seen them live, they were fantastic. XD

I can't wait for this album. I'm way excited about it. "The Party Song" isn't bad, but it's just a small hint of what they're capable of.

See, I hear that about SuperChik being horrible live, but I'd never think that about Emery. lol
That's two separate opinions I've heard. Total of 3.

But they're headed to Lewisville, which isn't far from me at all!
This September 7th!!!!
So I'll let you guys know how the concert went.

Yeah, go see them, I think you'll be impressed. They go insane during Walls. It's awesome. There's lots of guitar slinging and keyboard throwing.

Ask Steve.
He saw them live too.

"Walls" is a song I'd like to see live, but when I saw them, no one screamed...at all.

They played their most mellow songs and it was right after The Chariot too.
I was pumped. :(

They could have been having a bad day.

I dunno, I don't listen to Emery for screaming. Their singers are really good. I've seen them a few times now and they've always been good. *shrug* Ah well.

Keyboard throwing?!?!?
Oh man. XD Awesome!!!!

Man, now I'm stoked for this concert.

Oh, has anyone ever been in a Christian mosh pit? My experience was a very weird one. lol

In a church, a now defunct Keeping Lions and One Way Ticket were holding a concert in Lewisville, and I ended up being across the church by this 4 foot girl.....I was fairly heavy and was foot planted down. :P If that's not the Holy Spirit, I dunno what is. lol

Just wondering what everyone's experience was.

I don't listen to them for their screaming either.
I like their singing alot but their singing was really off that night.

I really hope it was a bad day because it was the only show I walked out on.

When I saw them live, they pretty much kicked butt. One of the best bands, and that was at the Warped Tour. Anyway I'm quite excited for their new album. It does sound like a dancier continuation of "The Question." Well at least the "Party Song."

The music is good on "The Party Song" but the words are soooooooooooooooooooooo terrible.
"Party ooooooooooooooooooooon." Awful. Just awful. I hope the rest of the CD is better.

I thought that besides the part where he's like "party ooooon" the lyrics were pretty good. So basically the second half of the song is good lyrics wise in my opinion. Yuppers.

Heh. Jamie, I should have seen this sooner. I think out of all the shows I saw at Soulfest, Emery had the worst one. For starters, the keyboardest is a joke. He dances like a complete tool, and acts very....female. And the lead singer sounded nothing like he does on CD. Now, if he was sick....that would explain it. Maybe he had the flu, or the plague, or a small woodland creature bit his tongue off. Somthing like that. But I was really bummed. They were one of the bands I really wanted to see live. I was quite sad when they took the stage and proceded to suck. So in closing, fire the femmy keyboardest, and get well soon cards to the lead singer.

I, in all honesty, agree with that post 100%.
(I went to the same show.)

If what you guys say is true, then this was definitely a bad show for them.

Your one time of Emery sucking does not outdo my four times of them being fantastic, Steve. :/ They were probably having a bad night. And what are you talking about with the keyboardist? He's awesome. He adds a lot of energy to their performance.

For one Jamie, probably 80% of the show he did nothing. I think on one or two songs he did screaming background vocals. (Somthing any of the other band could do, as this was neither melodic nor talented) The rest of the time, was spent throwing his keyboard (Which he missed and dropped twice) And acting like a fool. It distracted from the whole show. I don't mind energy. Somthing like Showbread. Those guys are nuts, but they have there jobs. This guy does like nothing. They don't even use the keyboard that much during the show! It would be like if I was in a band, and ran around with coconut shells. And like 2 songs, clapped them together. The whole thing came off more like he was someones brother and promised a part in the band when he had no music talent or somthing.

Wow, Steve.
The amount of truth in that post is amazing.

I was kinda wondering why they even have a keyboardist in their band.
He doesn't do ANYTHING live from what I saw.
I could see it as an additional instrument in some of their songs, but they NEVER used it live.

I can relate to the "brother" thing.
Our guitarist's brother is a decent bassist and we know someone who wants to be in our band that's an amazing bassist, but we would feel bad kicking "the brother" out.

Meh, to each his own.

Steve, did they do the song "Walls" at the beginning of the show because I remember you left early and I came half-way through?

It's nice.
I like all their songs for the most part, but so far no song has been perfectly balanced as much as "Walls."
Equal brutality and equal melody.

Wow, I just listened to the two new songs on purevolume. They are groovy! When I first heard "the weak's end" I had no idea that they would release a groovy record. Crazy.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll think that the new album is terrible...But yet love it tons. "After The Devil Beats His Wife" is a pretty rad song.

I wonder if these guys have been listening to opera and old 70s/80s music or somethin', cuz that's what this music is soundin' like. XD

Something I've noticed from their old album, is that they don't put the songs I really enjoy on their Purevolume. From their last album, I enjoyed Playing With Fire, and A Win Win Situation, and one other, I forgot. ( ) But, I think that they're not going to put the best ones out in the open, just so you're not like "Awwwww crap! The rest of it sucks!"

*shrugs* That's what alot of game companies do when makin' trailers, they don't put out the best parts and make you feel like you wasted your money when you play the rest....usually.
