Viacom and Dish Network...

Postby ShiroiHikari » Wed Mar 10, 2004 6:57 pm

Anyone who's got Dish Network has probably noticed the absence of channels like Nickelodeon, MTV, and VH1...it's supposed to be because of Viacom making unreasonable demands. Is this happening with any other cable or satellite companies?

I have Adelphia, and I still get those channels.

As far as I know, it only affects Dish Network.

Georgia Tech uses Dish Network for providing the on-campus TV network. Yes, those Viacom channels are down, and on our former MTV2 channel, they are replaying the "Charlie Chat" program that addresses the dispute.

Here is the link from Dish Network where they describe the dispute, from their viewpoint:

Regular cable, I couldn't take it. I can't miss the Daily Show.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Well, the channels appear to be back on the air now. I don't know why I care...I never get to watch TV anyway o_O *goes to read the link someone posted*

Edit: Hey, cool...a credit on the bill and a free pay-per-view movie.

BTW, the reason we don't have regular cable is because our town is like, the mafia and they won't let Cox start services here. So the cable company sucks. o_O

I have Dish, and those channels were gone. Now there back yeah! I heard about the credit on your bill were getting that. And were getting some free channels, but we aren't getting some paperview movies free! Nooo! I would much rather have that then these stupid channels or a small credit on the bill. (Thats cause I'm not paying it) haha!

Probaly doesn't mean anything but I do remember reading something on the bottom of the screen a few nights ago about some provider taking away certain channels and asking for everyone to call in and demand they want the channels they are paying for. Besides that bit, thats all I knew about the whole "ordeal".
"Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
and things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art; to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul."
