Con Panels

I was checking what was on Neko Con forums and one of the attendees asked how many attendees parents attend cons with their children.
Others said that their parents try to stay in the hotels or find other things to do while their children participate in the con.
I have put on the attendee forum and the staff forum that maybe there should be a panel for parents that can be invited to attend to learn about anime and manga and what their children have come to enjoy doing at cons.
I don't know if other cons put on a similar panel or not but I have heard from others that it would be worth a try.
I was wonder what members of CAA would think would be ideas for con panels that should be put on at cons.

As far as a parent's panel, I think it is a great idea.

However, I can see a problem with admission price -- why charge an adult (or two) for a con badge when they are already paying for their kid(s)?

But there are solutions -- have the panel adjacent to, but not in, the con; establish a special "parent's badge" with limited con access, available with the purchase of a weekend pass for a child under 18; and so on. I'm sure there are quite a few options, depending on the rules of the hosting location.

For other panel options -- why not take a chance with 'Christianity and Anime' (or maybe "Western Religion meets Eastern Philosophy")...

But what if that doesn't work?

After all, it would help non-anime interested people understand what it is we like. And thusly expand our interest to them. Even if they show no interest.

After all, I think most of us here have families who know nothing about our interest.

I'm very forward thinking. Today's Anime fans as children are tomorrow's Anime fans as adults with children of their own.

I wouldn't recommend it unless ashfire is particularly familiar with Confucius, Lao Tsu, and etc.

But what if my children don't like it? After all, I have Asperger's, and my obsessions can last for YEARS. XD

I think what I was trying to say is that a lot parents feel their children are doing something that some of them fear as cults or just don't know anything about what is involved with anime. There is good and bad so why not show them or let them ask questions from those who would be in their age range.

One for the news media to understand what anime is all about.
How many times have you heard someone on TV or the radio make a comment that just doesn't seem right to say about a anime con or something that ends up in print in the newspaper that makes everything sound stupid.
The media comes to film or write up on what is happening at the local convention center or hotel convention center.
I feel its the news person's opinion that they use when they do a story about a anime con and not the facts about what its all about.

Good luck. Most media people I've been exposed to are relatively clueless hacks who just want to get enough information to fill their sixty-second spot, then split for whatever other work (or play) they have lined up. "Indepth coverage" is not in their vocabulary or their work ethic, in general. Your mileage may vary.

Not at all. I fully understand the feeling speaking as someone who has to be in-depth with everything. XD

Sometimes I just want to say, "Anime is an animation style famous in Japan. It is also popular in America for some of it's mainstream titles but true fanatics watch much more and attend cons such as this one to talk about their interest. We are not strange and only partially insane".

It's no wonder I never started reading the news. XD Too negative anyways.

Looks like there might be a Parent Panel for Neko Con.
Alot of the staff and attendees want to be on the panel to explain to parents even the media what is Anime.
Maybe any of the CAA members that work as a staff member at a con could should suggest that their con should put on a Parent Panel or get on con forums and suggest that they put one together.
