any bug experts here?

[Tenshi no Ai]

When I was little I used to play with alot of bugs and familiarized myself with many different species. But today I saw a bug that I've never EVER seen nor heard of today... maybe the description can be accurate enough for someone who might know what it is^^

The size is about half of that of a pea (and moreso flattened, not rounded), quite circular, 6 legs that were quite stick-like and quite literally looked like this: L L L (for the one side, at least). The colour is black with orange sides, but what struck me as the most odd was that it was spiky! Looking close enough I could see tiny thorn like things poking out from its back. Quite a few of them too. It was like a beetle yet, not :/ The legs reminded me of something that probably hangs out in swamps though, if that helps any.

Sooo any idea what this could be? I'm always curious when I find some type of critter that I've never seen before and this one was just bizzare...

Perhaps maybe a type of horned beetle?

This is probably the closest I'm gunna get. If anything, it's almost closer to a ladybug, except for its legs being outstretched rather than tucker inside the shell more. I can't remember the ratio of black-orange either, but I'm PRETTY sure it was like that... it almost could've been the other way around too :/

Oh... and I guess I should've made the legs a LITTLE thicker at that large size^^ The "to scale" would be accurate in it's stickliness^^
