Cosplayers have been bemoaning the venue change ever since the last day of AX2007. It'll be an adventure. D:

Actually, I've heard the moving deal has only been recent. Prior to this year, it's always been in Anaheim consistently or something.

Alot of it has to do with the size of the con.

When the AX first started in 1992, it was held at San Jose, CA.

Since then, it has been held in Oakland (1993), Anaheim (1994, 1996, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 at Anaheim Convention Center) (1998 and 1999 at Anaheim Hilton & Towers) (2000 at Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim), Los Angeles (1995, 1997 at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton) Long Beach (2001, 2002 and 2007 at Long Beach Convention Center)

Now for 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

After 2006, there was some work being done to the Anaheim Convention Center or that's what I heard from anime con reports and was one of the reason why AX was moved to Long Beach this year.

When AX was held at Long Beach in 2001 and 2002, the number of con goers was between 13,000 to 15,000.

But a friend of my told me that they did alot adding on and work to Long Beach Convention Center after it was moved to Anaheim.

I take it that, the they had alot of room there for this year's con.

Plus, after the 2006 year. I heard that the Anaheim Convention Center was being updated or re work on to add more to the place.

RE: the move from Anaheim to Long Beach, it's partially because the convention center is booked during the 4th of July weekend for the next few years, and the SPJA seems to think that not having AX on the weekend of the 4th will cause the fabric of space time to rip. There's also talk of the Anaheim CC wanting AX to cap registration at 40k, which is something the heads of the con apparently don't want to do, though I think doing so would be beneficial for the con. >.>

Don't know why the move to the LACC, though.

I think a registration cap would be a good idea. Otakon has done it in the past. The first year they limited it was in 2005, which had a cap of 22,000 people (They reached the cap, and some people had to go back home, lol). Though the year after that they raised the cap around 24-25K and everybody got to register.

Considering that AX has had staffing and organizational issues in the past, I really don't know why they're against a reg cap. =[ I mean, better organization + ample staff + a nicer venue = win to me. *shrugs*

I've decided (though it IS very late) that I'll do my traditional AXCAA montage. The thing is, I'll have to use your guys' pictures to make up for my lack of non-Haruhi pictures.

It'll be great, I promise.
