Love the little kids!

Postby c-girl » Mon Jul 02, 2007 2:17 pm

I just have to make a thread absolutely dedicated to talking about children. Because they are the most gosh dang cutest little things on the planet! Sometimes obnoxious, but still cute. >^-^< I used to not like children at all, but some how that magically changed. I guess I get it from my mom. I believe my brother is the same way.
My family has had history of child abuse and bad parenting.. So now we have a passion for kids and making them happy. >^^< We know that to change the world, we must start with ourselves and the little ones. Because kids are the future of our world and we are the ones that must influence them and help them grow up to be good people.

N' I just have a few questions.

Who are some of the little ones in your life? Who are they and what are some of their likes and dislikes? How do you wish to influence them? What is your hope for them?

I agree, little kids are awesome.

I don't have any in my life right now, no young siblings or nephews or nieces, no babysittlings.

You can't just run up to little kids and try to befriend them these days, either.

I don't hate kids,I am just a realist when it comes to such topics.Anyone who got beat up when they were a kid or got their lunch money stolen or anything of the like will not have a very optimistic view of children overall. And if you have been around children long enough, such as working as a TA or Daycare Worker you pretty soon get to know that kids do have a dark side to them.
Bullies are children too,y'know.

My mom owned a dare care with about 14 kids or more by herself along with my brother and I and has had over 6 years of experience of working in the school districts as an IA. My family is also deeply into psychology especially children psychology.

I have to go on record saying this: I am a realist; you are a cynic. The vast majority of cynics believe themselves to by realists. Every time I have seen a "dark side" in dealing with kids, it's simply a reflection of the parents or other influences in their life.

But let's not degrade someone's topic with petty things. Back on track...

I love kids. I seriously considered vocational children's ministry at one point in my live. I spent about 5 years working with children at church before I started working with teens.

I have two nephews, and countless kids in my circle of friends. I hang out with the "young couples" at our church, which means dozens of kids.

I spent a good portion of yesterday hanging out with a group of kids at a 4th party. After a long day of dealing with server crap, it was great to have a chance to unwind and be reminded of what innocence means.

We had one little girl who spent the first few hours of the BBQ looking at the volleyball nets and getting more and more agitatedly. Eventually she asked if we were going to play. That convinced a bunch of us to get a game going. After an hour or so of playing, we all had to go home. She came up to us and said, "Thanks for the game!" It was pretty cool, but you might have "had to be there."

I've had the chance to interact with a fair share of so-called good and bad kids but in general, I like kids as much as I like adults. No special preference, folks. XD

c-girl wrote:...child abuse and bad parenting. We know that to change the world, we must start with ourselves and the little ones. Because kids are the future of our world and we are the ones that must influence them and help them grow up to be good people.
Honestly, if I encounter "bad" kids, I usually look at their parents/guardians first. Don't get me wrong, self-centredness and pride is inherent in all of us (add that with a few unique quirks LOL) but I really do think that parenting plays a huge role in the character development of a child.

My point really is this: If you don't like the way some kids act, don't resent or reject them. Try looking for someone or something that is influencing their character development to understand them or better still, be a good example to them. Kids have to learn how to take responsibilities for their actions but we shouldn't let their adult guardians off the hook either.

Anyone who got beat up when they were a kid or got their lunch money stolen or anything of the like will not have a very optimistic view of children overall. And if you have been around children long enough, such as working as a TA or Daycare Worker you pretty soon get to know that kids do have a dark side to them. Bullies are children too,y'know.
Should I assume that you were one of these kids who got beaten up/lunch money stolen? That has never happened to me before so I'd like to hear the opinions of those who have experienced that.

I think it's easy to be disappointed with kids because we hold this assumption that they're more pure and non-corrupted. Hehehe...I mean, cute kids sometimes look like little angels, don't they? But if we consider that all of us are sinners at birth and that it's very easy for kids to pick up bad influences, then perhaps we would have a more realistic and balanced approach towards them. I don't have kids yet but when I do, I hope I'll be a good and loving parent/guardian so that when the kids grow up, they'll continue on the good parenting cycle onto the next generations.

>"< Well I was bullied pretty bad when I was a little kid by other kids.. N' I mean.. It wasn't just the regular name calling and push around thing. It got pretty bad.. I remember after one of my worst bully encounters, I had a hard time trying to get over the fact that what happened to me was awful and thinking of a deeper reason why they did those things to me.. I just wanted to put the complete blame on them and not look any further.. I'm not sure how long it took me to think deeper.. But I eventually did.. I know at least most of their family lives were messed up.. N' I know that the rest I don't know the stories behind also had some reason they did the things they did.
I just hope that life got better for all of them and they learn to treat people better.

I was bullied quite a bit when I was a kid. By the time I hit high school, the rest of the people figured out I could hack into the school's grade system and wipe out their As. They stopped picking on me then. :D

 This is my quote of the day. XDDD Exemplifies how I feel about little kids.

Buuuuuuut, on a serious note, I acknowledge that being the youngest in my family many people have had to put up with me and be patient and guiding in order to make me into the great would-be dictator Christian person I now am! XD So I intend to do the same to all the little kids out there.

Afterall, Jesus said those who are like little children will inherit the kingdom of heaven. They have just as much to teach us as we do to them.

Just... Lord grant me patience and a whoooole lotta Advil! See, I think kids are cute at the baby level when they just giggle and spit up and stare at you with big cute baby eyes. Once they learn to talk they get annoying. I prefer animals to kids. A lot less stress. XDDD

Haha, as the second-youngest (I'm a twin, so I'm older than Soph by 7 minutes) in a LARGE family, I have three nephews and a neice. There's another baby on the way, too!

I didn't like children, especially when I was growing up. True, they can fight and give you 'lip', but they've really grown on me, particularly with my neice and nephews.

My eldest nephew is 14 - 5 years younger. He's fantastic - got a great sense of humour and really smart. But I guess 14 isn't really a kid anymore, haha. Hard not to think of him as that sometimes, though. Because we're so close in age we get along quite well, though between Uni and him starting High School I haven't been able to really catch up with him in a while. His Mother is my sister, who is currently expecting in August, and he's just fantastic. ^^

My brother's family has three kids - the eldest boy is 7, the middle girl is 5 and I can't remember how old the youngest boy is .... but he's 2, I think. I love them all, despite the odd quarrels and cheekiness. We live on a mini farm, so they love walking out with me to visit the sheep and hand feed the chickens. The youngest LOVES music and sometimes the only way to get him to sit still is by sitting him at the piano!

I could go on longer... but that's good for now. ;)

Seriously, I used to hate kids. The three things that helped that change for me were having neices and nephews, leaving High School and being EXPOSED to them for long periods of time -- particularly in baby-sitting. I tell you, nothing gets your parental instinct going like sitting on a couch with kids sitting up against you under each arm and on your lap. Kids are fantastic. Not perfect, but entirely lovable.

PERFECT THREAD! PERFECT THREAD!

Children are my life. My family has said that I would make the best example of a parents if I were to have any, which I do want very much. I'm very patient with them, and can communicate with them very well. This has always been a talent I've had even when I was a child myself.

I have two nephews that my sister brought into the world. One is almost 5 and the other isn't even a year old, both boys. I also have a 2 year old cousin who loves bunnies and touching EVERYTHING. She's a girl.

And to those who have bitterness at them, yes, they do take work sometimes. But what about anyone else who is human? To be honest, there are many times I would rather be around children then someone at my own age or older.

So what? Unless Nero and Hitler were planning mass murder or has screwed-up philosophies at the age of 0-10 years, their existence has nothing to do with how we should view or treat kids. Even so, I would have placed blame on influencing circumstances around them. There is no real need to emphasize the point that kids are not perfect because I think most of us already know that. Sheesh.....as if adults are any better.

We are taught to love kids even if they're naughty, annoying, or eventually grow up to made bad decisions. If some of you don't want to do that, fine. But pls stop focusing on the negatives and cheering on others to dislike kids on a thread that was intended for the opposite. Grow up.

Alright, the youngest individual whom I have regular interaction with is my landlady's daughter who is 12. I guess she doesn't qualify as a kid but you have to be as patient and understanding with pre-teens as well! She's not too keen with studies and gets into trouble for skipping her homework but she's a good kid at heart. She's a huge fan of a Taiwanese boyband called Fahrenheit and she loves playing computer games. I have fun discussing the boyband and trading pretty pictures with her. XDD

Another bunch of kids I met a week ago were my pastor's (boy and girl) and neighbour's children (two twin boys). The PKs were a little more well-behaved and I only chatted with them a little while the twin boys were very boisterous <--- they're always like that when their mum has visitors. We had a great time playing this football board game, using our fingers to flick the ball (don't ask me how it works) but it was very funny because we were accidentally sending football players into the goal net and outside of the field.

I was tired out by the end of the day but we had a good time. XD

I'm a big fan of little kids; my church back has a ton of them, and I love them all. They have such a great way of looking at life and other people, and while their honesty can sometimes create momentary awkwardness for us still "adults," I definitely love it. One thing, though: I don't think I could ever be a teacher for a large class. A tutor, yes--I really value close interaction, and that would be hard with a lot of them at once.

Kids. Heh. I have to deal with myself all day, so I suppose I don't mind them.

Nah, I like kids when they're not completely obnoxious and raised like crap. My biggest problem is not really knowing how to act around them (I was the youngest, so I didn't have much experience), and not knowing how their parents will react to me interacting with them (I hear horror stories of hyperprotective parents, so I'm constantly paranoid).

But I tell you what, there's no greater feeling than a little kid latching onto your leg and smiling at you.
