There's now an official review for it (some people have asked me about it in the past).

Did you ever get a chance to read the manga, Gypsy? I haven't seen the anime yet but I actually really enjoyed the manga. But it's not as innocent as it might appear on the cute covers--the manga has some disturbing parts too, but I didn't think it was horrible by any means--younger readers should just excercise some caution.

I have read a number of reviews that have steered me away from this title. Your's is added to that number. Thanks for the cautionary note Gypsy.

I didn't feel as bad as you did Gypsy, while watching Alien Nine. Perhaps, I'm just dense; but, I just didn't read the same stuff that you read into it.

I have to agree that's it's dark and to use caution watching it. I don't think just anyone can watch this. It's not a cutesy anime, and I don't think it was ever touted as one, so I'm glad you made the strong statements you made to keep younger viewers away.

The person who wrote the manga said he knew people would make grand misinterpretations of the meaning. He writes quite a bit in his defense in the manga, because he got a lot of flack over it. He actually was just writing an alien manga. He thought his concept was very original. I thought the same when I watched it and really enjoyed how different it was. Maybe my love for originality shaded my perception, as well.

However, if your spirit was bothered by it, then I'm sorry you had to sit through it for this review. If you ever need help in a review, let me know. I've watched an awful lot of stuff. I would gladly talk to you about any review if you need.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

No, I haven't done anything more than skim through it at the store.

Well, that's the thing. I didn't catch on to any of it until I read some lists on fansites. Even if only a couple of them make sense, it was enough to really bother me. Many interpretations seem way out there - but some of the symbolism seems too accurate for me to argue with. For others, I'm sure it's different, but I could never see it as anything different now.

I've read this as well. I might also mention that the manga and anime are very different on several key points. I haven't read the manga, so I don't know this first hand (but I have no reason to doubt it, either). If anyone has any additional info on the manga, please feel free to post it here. It's too bad about the creator of the manga having to defend it, though, because the raw idea was quite original. That's why I bought the DVD in the first place, because it was something totally different from the norm.

However, if your spirit was bothered by it, then I'm sorry you had to sit through it for this review. If you ever need help in a review, let me know. I've watched an awful lot of stuff. I would gladly talk to you about any review if you need.

Thank you, I appreciate this very much. I do have to state that I didn't watch the anime for review purposes, though, so I'm not trying to claim I was suffering for the cause or something silly like that. The truth is that I'm just a regular anime fan that has a bad case of impulsive buying. I buy, watch, and read about a lot of anime, and if this hobby can somehow contribute to something constructive and helpful (reviews) then I'm more than happy to do so. I love doing anything for CAA members. Rarely, rarely will I watch an anime simply to review it. But again, thank you - I'll be sure to come to you if I have any questions.

I have to agree that's it's dark and to use caution watching it. I don't think just anyone can watch this. It's not a cutesy anime, and I don't think it was ever touted as one, so I'm glad you made the strong statements you made to keep younger viewers away.

Does everyone see this? While t_n_c has a different view than I do, she was very polite in saying so and still got her point across clearly. I am very grateful for this, and I hope that anyone else who has something to say would follow her lead.

Since my huge problems with the anime were in fact, interpreted, I was warned, and in turn, anticipated various reactions to my rather harsh review. I really hope that anyone who reads my review will also read this thread so they'll get the whole picture instead of just my sole take. In this case, I could not bring myself to base the review from an objectionable point. That's also why the age rating is based on my reaction and views rather than the physical content of the anime. I was a little hesitant to rate it, but if members feel that it wasn't fair to do, then I'm willing to bring the age ratings down.

Again, I hope people read through this thread before making a decision. I may have written the review and I'm very set in how I see it, but I am only one person. In fact, I'm going to add a link to this thread right in the comments section.

Thanks, Gypsy. I needed a nice comment. I've been feeling like I'm being such a wench lately. I'm glad I didn't offend you. :)

Nope, not at all. When you sign in on CAA and find that I've replaced your avatar with Queen Brahne, then it's pretty safe to assume you've offended me. Until then, no worries. ;)

I have read the first three volumes of the manga (the first story arc--they are coming out with a sequel as well), and I didn't pick up on whatever symbolism you are talking about, Gypsy, so I hope that means it isn't as blatant in the manga as in the anime, or perhaps it isn't even present at all. I can at times be naive, but I have a pretty imaginative, creative mind that usually picks up on things like sybolism pretty quickly, so again I hope that means that the symbolism isn't there in the manga. I haven't read any of the lists on fansites, though, and I haven't watched the anime.

I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has on the first three volumes of the manga, but I won't post a full review. I will say that there are graphic moments in terms of alien gore and some violence, but not anything you wouldn't see in any alien horror/sci-fi movie. There is some psychological drama, and the lead characters experience some major adversity, but again I see it more as an alien-themed sci-fi/horror type manga with really cute characters. Questions on the manga feel free to post on this thread (as long as that's okay with you, Gypsy), or PM me.

Ahhhhhhhhh! :wow!: Queen Brahne is scarier than an alien on top of a sixth-graders head.;)

I'll be sure to never offend you, all-powerful, Gypsy.:)
