Corrupt Christian music

Postby Mave » Fri Mar 05, 2004 2:08 pm

WOW....I just found this page. It's pretty interesting and .....well, I'll let you guys take a look first.

http://www.corruptchristianmusic.com/home/index.html

I haven't looked through it all but somehow the arguments against some Christian artists aren't very strong. Seriously, is this a joke? :eyebrow:

I read on Jars of Clay since I'm a big fan. And they're telling me not to listen to JoC because of what the members listen to??? And just because one of the members has beer, ever now and then? Gosh.....I'm at lost for words. Opinions, anyone?

Note: If you are offended by Catholic Church bashing, you may not wanna go there.

(laughs)The arguments ARE weak, but that's my opinion.(motions to Shatterheart to post on the subject)

If anyone disagrees, please don't post your dissonence here. We Christian rock fans understand your descision, and we'll leave you to it. It's no prob. God loves us all, regardless of music preferences. If you feel the need to discuss the matter(points under avatar and post count) my MSN addy is right there.

Once again, we won't hold it against you if your preference differs from ours.

Oh ... oh my goodness. I too, have no idea what to say (although the entire thing angers me a great deal). I wonder who these people think they are. They certainly got on my bad side by ripping apart my three fav Christian music artists (Ben Gate, RSJ, and Superchic[k]). I cannot believe someone actually put out a site like that.

I'm sure these people would adore an invitation to CAA. I'm sure we'd even get an honorary spot on their site too.

At panheads.org we went through all that site.

Verall I think it's rediculous. It does various things.

1. Puts musicians on a high pedestal ranking them more important the average Christian. But wait... Aren't all humans equal?

2. Cursed by association. She (yes its a SHE that runs it) blasts the abnds simply by who they are friendly with. I have unsaved friends, does that make me unsaved!?!? No. but she apparantly thinks it does.

3. Judged by appearance. In the Pillar area she mentions 'demonic looking Skillet'
Oh yeah... so salvation is based on appearance now... :S
--------------

Don't take this site seriously. Her arguments are based around the typical anti-Christian rock argument

1. Name Christian band
2. Name secular band that sounds like Christian band
3. List EVERYTHING wrong with the secular band
4. Blame Christian band for secular bands actions.

-----------
http://www.mindspring.com/~brucec/craindex.htm is an excellent site that provides a rock solid defense for Christian Rock. I recommend you read it.

Some important things I MUST say now.

Don't start being angry and complaining about her. That's EXACTLY the reaction they want! The whole - Oh look at how they can't handle the truth, they're being violent and nasty toward us! SEE WE WERE RIGHT! Rock Music DOES make you violent!

Don't be ammunition for them please...

Agreed - the whole webpage is superfluous at best. Someone (or a group) is attempting to whine about something because... They need to whine about something. Often times, individuals feel "holier" if they devote themselves to a pious cause of "smiting evil", etc. etc.

Heaven forbid if anyone take something with a grain of salt, yes?

Oh, and to close my semi-arguement:

Look at the quote from The Bible in my signiture. Someone who email that to the group who put up the website to begin with. ;)

I can't stand that website, though I have to admit that it makes a lot of interesting points. Still, for everything it does right it does twice as much wrong. *grumbles*
While I do admit, some Christian artists do some pretty stupid things (like Jaci Velasquez being in Chasing Papi), that site's articles are lacking in a lot of reason. One astute member on G2G said that the site seems to follow the reasoning that "Person A is bad because he KNOWS Person B, and Person B is bad because he associates with Person A." He's pretty much right. I just hope this discussion stays civil though, as it certainly didn't on G2G and the christian bashing got so bad I almost closed it.

That site is a total outrage!

Mel Gibson is a devout Catholic. So devout he built "Our Lady of Malibu" a Parish in
Malibu, CA where he strictly abides by traditional Roman Catholic teachings such as, Mary
being a co-redeemer and born of an Immaculate Conception, and the Latin Mass. Latin Mass
is what was practiced in the Dark Ages, because it kept the controlled peasants in the dark

For their information, the Catholic church in general doesn't DO latin masses, as of Vatican II! Mel Gibson's church is rather peculiar that way..
And I still have to look into this 'co-redeemer' crap but I can tell you this: in no way do catholics worship Mary or the Saints :shady:

Maybe I'll visit some of their other pages later so I can laugh at them.. who knows

Nah, it should stay civil here! Or, at least, I do not see why not... Pretty much everyone is against what is said on the website. *giggles*

Oooooh...... some Christian bashing could be fun, though! (This is a joke and a pun, take it as one please!)

Yes, I remember many "hellfire and brimstone" speeches from tenth grade English Class. We read them right before the Transendentalists (sp?).

It is sad we cannot really do anything because: A.) This is the internet and people are allowed to their opinion. B.) They already think they're right and will argue that until they have blue faces. C.) Freedom of Speech and Religion.

Hmmm...this is all very interesting to me, because my godfather, an Anglican pastor, although he does not argue the arguments of this website except for saying that some of them have questionable histories, told me that there are some Christian music, especially in the heavy metal variety (he is by no means targeting the heavy metal music genre), if played backwards at highspeeds, can be heard to say satanic, anti-christian, or drug supporting things. He also said without explanining because he had to go for some church meeting thing that the human mind after listening to this over and over again, will take in some kind of sub-message which are those words and influence people away from our lord Jesus, even people who are already Christians... I do not know how truthful what he said is, but he is normally very strong in his Christian faith, although he can be extremely strict with entertainment at times (No, I don't know his views on anime and manga). I don't attend his church because he is in Singapore, and I attended an International Baptist Church when I lived in Singapore. Please give me your views on this. Thanks!

Wiggins you're righti n that constant exposure to stuff, your mind WILL take in parts of it. That's one reason why I prefer christian music over secular. I'd rather things like Jesus is Lord, he has freed us from sin. We are not monkeys we are made in the image of God. Etc. being blasted in my ears than life sucks lets kill ourselves :S

The music being played backwards thing... I think that's silly. I'd have to hear it myself to believe something like that.

I like visiting these sites, because their weak arguments make me laugh. When people attack in this way they are almost always completely ignorant... I wonder why these places hardly ever have forums or guestbooks.

Whoever made that site really needs to read up about what Paul has to say concerning unity within the Church...

They've got the paranoia and bigotry down, but they still seem to be missing that lunatic edge that could put them over the top. But if they work on their delusions and hysterics a bit more, I'm sure they could go all-pro next year. Unfortunately sports fans, I'm afraid I can't give them more than a 6.0/10 this time around. Better luck next time kids, and thanks for coming out!

PS. Did anyone catch what they actually listen to themselves?
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

No, where was that posted?

My personal take on it, and as others have observed, is that the primary crux is to exploit guilt by association, which is silly.

Besides, there are times to answer a fool in his own wisdom and some to be silent, but let us give her a chance. If she truly believes in Christ, she is merely misguided, for the bible says only those who do not accept the word of God are fools...but she is doing somthings wrong, so maybe she is a fool? It is not for us to judge. Wish me luck!

I noticed that in many places, like towards the bottom and in small print "disclaimer"-type paragraphs, they use the words "we apologize" a lot. This is really disturbing. If they feel so strongly about it, why should they feel the need to be so apologetic? To me it shows lack of spine, which makes me lose respect for them and their cause. At least P.O.D. are unapologetically heathen--er, um, Christian.

No offense friend, but the wisdom of men alone isn't even going to put a chink in that situation. Only intense prayer by those led to pray for the situation would even begin to cause something to happen concerning that site. That's basically why I said nothing, because I had at least a five page letter typed up "lovingly" telling them how full of it that they were. They'd probably heard it all before, anyways.
