Keyboard Trouble

Postby Doubleshadow » Thu Apr 26, 2007 11:06 am

When I tried to use my computers keyboard (I'm on a school computer), everytime I tapped a key it produced at least two copies of the letter and deleted two spaces if I hit backspace. Also, whenever I tried to use the mouse, it would highlight sections of text instead of just moving the cursor. Right now I can't use my computer at all. Anyone know what's up?

It could be the computer needs a good reboot, but since it's a shared computer at a school, it's possible someone has maliciously changed the settings.

To check your settings, go to:
Start->Control Panel->Keyboard

Check the repeat rate. If it is on the shortest setting, then it's possible that that is the cause for your double letter typing.

For the mouse problem, that sounds like a mouse driver problem that a reboot would fix, but check the settings in Control Panel->Mouse and Control Panel->Accessibility for odd settings there.

If it's a coputer owned buy the school, tell a someone about it, and don't mess with it.
If you do you could get your self intruble.

No, its my personal computer. I meant I was using a school computer to leave the post.

In addition to what I previously mentioned, the caps lock is coming on at random. Also, when I restarted the computer, it was fine until the bizarre component behavior returned after about 2 minutes.

It does sound like the driver. I know its not any of the settings, I checked them. I'll try to get it to a repair guy (I hope the ones here can handle it, the guys at home never get it right).

I would try calling the Manufactures tech support before I took it to a shop.

Is this USB keyboard, or PS2? Do you have another keyboard in the house you can test it with? If so, swap the keyboards and see if the problem goes away. If the problem follows the keyboard to the second computer, it's an issue with they keyboard. They're about $10.00 at the shop around the corner from me.

YMMV.

I've had weird issues with keyboards before by choosing the wrong language keyboard (standard US should be the right one - US International was one such keyboard language that made it go weird). But I don't know that it would be the problem in this case.
Everywhere like such as, and MOES.

I have something similar that happens to me, w4c. Only, it's a laptop that likes to swtich to dvorack. If I mash down on the caps/shift/control/alt/windows keys, it switches back. It was kinda spooky, the first time it happened, though.

US International is a great keyboard layout. I have it on a hotkey for whenever I need to enter characters like á, è, ö, ñ, ø, ², ¿, ¥, å, ß, ð, µ, or similar. Very useful. ALT+SHIFT+2 for me.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Well, my computer crashed altogether, it would load the DOS screen before Windows (and I had to prompt it), my mouse isn't working period, and the hard drive is making a sound a lot like a hair dryer. Looks like its going to the shop anyway.
