Well, I question the validity of that statement, since we now have commercials that carry the slogan, "Where you at?" I don't care what time period you live in, that's just bad grammar, period. XD

The statement is true to a point, since none of us today speak the way Shakespeare would have, but there's still a defining line between "bad grammar" and "the usage of the day". XD

The point is, quite simply, that such rampant deconstructionism is detrimental to the very concept of language and communication. If there are no rules governing a language [in this case, English] and defining it, then consistency is lost. If words do not mean the same thing to different people, how are they to communicate? That's why I avoid the use of Internet slang except for cases where it makes sense [for example, I use XD to indicate that I am laughing or find something amusing] or for satirical purposes [like the above].

However, if I ever see "IMNSHO" I will break down and laugh... And search out the author of said essay, and pay them copious amounts of money, provided the topic of the essay and other content was worth my time.

That would be because a bit of casual speech and even a little netspeak shouldn't detract from their content if they have something important to say.
