if I was running explorer, they would be from the left ... aLLLL the way to the right (covering all the middle) and hanging a good foot off the right side of my nice 1280x800 res wide scrn (whut can I say, the desktop is the easiest place to save everything XD) but thank God for Blackbox, the right plugins let me put them where i want so they can look cool with my desktop (put goofy holding my photoshop icon, now that pretty awes. ;P ) and Object dock/Rocket dock/R Launcher/ whatever dock you prefer to use also makes for a nice icon layout.

What's a wallpaper?
Is it that thing that you can see behind the icons sometimes?
I only have 5 empty icon slots on my desktop (and they aren't grouped together).
I used to have more icons, but I had to remove about half when I dropped my resolution down from 1600x1200 to 1024x768...
