Some advice needed...

Tonight I'm going to my girlfriend's house to meet her parents. Quite frankly, I'm in the dark as to how I should act there. Being polite and gentlemanly is obvious, but beyond that...any tips? She lives with her mom; her parents are divorced. Her mother is extremely strict, as well.

Then you know all you need to know, really. Be polite, be a gentleman. Treat your lady friend with respect, treat der mama with respect, say your pleases and thankyous, dot the is cross, the ts, tec.

The first time I met my inlaws (when my wife and I started dating), I mowed their lawn for them. They loved me ever since. You could try that...
It takes bad jokes to appreciate the good ones.

Sounds like you probably have all you need. Maybe offer to do the dishes?

Ooh. That's a good idea! My fiancee's parents were distrusting of me simply because I was older (it apparently runs in the family. My Mom married my Dad when she was 28 and he was 38. Granma and Grandad didn't trust him at all), though I'm only a few years. We started dating when she was a Sophmore in highschool and I was a freshman in college. two and a half years difference. Still, I was the scary older man. I was just nice. Eventually I won over her mother, who was the hardest. All her Dad had to do was talk to me to like me.

Try complimenting her mother on something like a painting in the house or the silverware. Might start a nice conversation and break the ice a bit.

It seemed to go well. You know the '51 point inspection' commercials about cars? I pretty much got that. I was asked if I drank, smoke, dated a lot, whether I was a Christian or not, and many other things. Some of them I'm quite sure my face turned beet red, but alas...Tori thought it went well, too, so hopefully. Break the ice? My thoughts were, "FAT PENGUIN!" Lol. I do appreciate the fact that her mom is so strict, though. I'm happy that she has taken such good care of Tori until this point, and not allowed her to get involved with all this other stuff.

Congrats on passing your interrogation there. ;) Fat penguin? What in the name of Thomas Crapper is that supposed to mean? Um... you didn't call your GF's mom a fat penguin did you? That wasn't what I meant by break the ice. That'd be more like break the ice and drown yourself fifty feet under.

Hahaha. Good one. I'm glad it went well. In the meantime, just be yourself around them.

"What in the name of Thomas Crapper." If ever there was a man whose name should be taken in vain, it is Thomas J Crapper. Mind if I borrow the phrase?
