Thai Insurance Commercials

Postby Mr. SmartyPants » Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:06 pm

These are rather sad... but good marketing! I actually cried while watching some of them. My favorites were the first, second, and last.

So yeah... off to move to Thailand and buy their insurance!

Your title issues are easily fixed, fortunately.

To make this post on topic: Wow, that's probably the most blatant emotional manipulation I've seen in a good while.

The endings almost makes me hate the commercial. It's all like "You have been exposed to an incredibly emotional commercial. Now that you feel fuzzy inside, buy our insurance!"

Chicken soup for the soul. And car insurance. Now I feel all guilty for laughing at the comments.

But really, they've packed more emotion into the span of a minute and 30 seconds than most American films do in an hour and 30 minutes. And I'll give them props for that.

They can't help it that tragedy is a part of their country...

But, yes, it is very manipulative.

One of my first thoughts after seeing the commercial was how funny it would have been, immediately following the fading out, to cut to a "Now buy our product!" ending in the incredibly overenthusiastic style of the worst of Japanese commercials.

Dang! They are done so well. They really understand the human condition that being with loved ones even through the toughest times is one of those things that matters most in life. I teared up a bit too, but they also had great messages of hope.

It is just in the Asian formula. I've just noticed that many Thai films are tragedies, as well as Indian and other nearby Asian countries. Maybe it's the Buddhist influence...or many other cultural influences.

Yeah well most Asians films are tragic... especially compared to the American counterparts.

Just compare Il Mare to The Lake House. Not so much as something cultural, rather a type of element they use more often in their entertainment.

The commercials are so emotional. The 2nd commercial reminds me of the parable of the prodigal son by Jesus Christ. Its really touching.
