Vegetarians?

Talk about anything in here.

Vegetarians are... delicious.

I have been on a plant-based diet for quite a few years myself, really. All personal/heath related reasons. I will occasionally eat light meat if necessary, but I prefer a stricter vegetarian diet.

Anyway, I resent the stereotype that vegetarians are militant animal right activists who are pushy and arrogant. I never try to force anything on anyone, and I abhor hypocritical organizations like PETA with every fiber of my being.

Ironically enough, it's meat eaters who tend to be pushy, judgmental, rude, and critical of my dietary choices. But on other occasions, people are genuinely just curious. I am rather tired of being patronized (or worse, grouped with the genuine weirdos) simply for cutting a few foods out of my diet, and so I don't ever bring it up myself.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

Not trying to start a debate here, but I've seen this misinformation spread around a bit, and I feel a need to correct it. No, the world's food problem couldn't partly be solved if we'd eat less meat for two reasons.

One, you say that 50% of crops are used to feed animals. That's true, but there's a problem; the grain grown for animal crops isn't the same as the grain we eat. The majority of grain grown for livestock is tough as rocks, coarse, and so low-grade that it's only fit for animal consumption in the first place.

Also, you can't always grow plants for human consumption in the same place; not every field is equally fertile. Often, farmers don't have a choice in what they can grow on their land, meaning you can't say "Stop growing the coarse grain for animals and grow human grain." It's not up to the farmer; it's up to the land.

So I'm not bashing you, and I'm sure you were just unaware of this fact, but I thought I'd just correct it. ^^

Eating less meat would be a good thing, I'm sure. My diet doesn't contain enough veggies, that much is true.

I would also put forth that world hunger is more of a political problem than a problem of using up too much land to feed animals instead of people. The U.S. alone could probably grow enough food to feed every human and animal on Earth if we reclaimed farm land that has been lost to desert or that has just simply laid fallow for decades and we instituted advanced farming techniques such as those developed in Japan where space is at a premium.

The US is one of the most fertile areas in the world, but there's plenty of good farm land in Europe and Asia as well. If politics were not an issue and the potential for profit could be realized (in other words, if we needed more farm land than we had readily available, which we don't), we could even make good farm land in less fertile places. It's really just a matter of proper resource management.

Distribution of resources has been a problem for as long as humans have walked the earth and there is no end to those difficulties in sight, unfortunately.

I'm a balanced eater. I have a friend who's a vegitarian though.

Now, YES there's animal crulety, but I think God gave us animals to eat. I would like to go all Organic though. I would never be able to go Veg.

Organic = Meat from well-treated animals with no chemicals. :P Everyones happy then, right?

Now I would like to comment on the world hunger thing. In most starving countries (not all but most) it's war or economy that starves the people.

Either the food is to expencive, or the country is to war-torn to hunt or grow food. Or a conbination of both. Over population plays a role too.

I know it's settled but I just wanted to add that. ;)

Remember, folks, when it comes to your diet - CARBOHYDRATES = SCARY DEATH ORB. Just ask the Anagram Man.

Well, Vegetarian = Great Naive, as far as that goes...

*cough*

I'm fine with vegetarians, as long as they don't dog on ME for being a meat eater. Particularly if they're Christians. That makes it doubly wrong. Otherwise, do as you will. I got no problem with anything you eat or don't eat.
