So anybody else heard about the Transformers movie that's coming out?

Now you have. :P

I've only been waiting for a year or so.... Come out already! At the very least, it'll be some major eye-candy! We sell GM cars, so I'm pretty pumped about several of the car choices in the movie. ;)

It'll be interesting. I see the name Micheal Bay plays a prominent role. Should I know who that is?

I believe Micheal Bay is the director.

I'm kinda stoked about this too, since I've recently started to get into Transformers a bit (finally...).

I only heard about it from myspace. I really don't like the cartoon though.

Eye candy good though. Very good.

Frankly, the early seasons of the cartoon series suck. But the animated movie is all kinds of rad. Have you seen it?

I'm actually a bigger fan of the series, but my hindsight is more than likely romanticized... I bought the movie used for like 5 bucks.

It was the first movie I heard a curse word in. hehe.

Yeah, I never saw the series as a kid, being a little girl and all, heh. I've seen some of it recently...eesh. Haha. I'm sure it gets better later on though.

Slightly off-topic, I'm looking forward to watching some of the Japanese versions, like Masterforce. It looks like a cross between super robots and Transformers, which is an a-okay concept in my book. XD

I wish I could play the import game Super Robot Wars.... Imagine Transformers fighting alongside Macross, Gundam, Evas, Big-O, etc....

Well, the boyfriend says Transformers makes exactly zero appearances in SRW. :( Also, he says Macross, Eva, and Big-O make very few appearances as well. But if you want Gundam, SRW has it in spades.

Actually they kinda do.... Jetfire (think 1986 or so) was pulled from Macross into the US Transformers series, sooo...

Ah, nevermind, I'm reaching now...

I hope it's good, but I'm skeptical. Transformers is probably my favorite cartoon ever, and the movie blows my mind no matter how many times I see it.

I am saving a giftcard for this movie. That way no matter how much money I have I can see it.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about the movie, but frankly it's looking more and more like a disapointment the more I see about it.

Basically, I've got two issues with what I've seen so far:

1. The commercials/trailers/stuff I've seen so far only show the pretty young people having any lines, while the actual Transformers just smash things up. Obviously, action sequences make for better ads, but giant robots are much cooler than pretty young people. If the actual story focuses more on the latter than the former (which the distribution of lines would indicate), I'll be very unhappy.

2. The actual look of the Transformers themselves. What's up with all the exposed gears and wires and tubes and stuff? Where'd the sleek, futuristic robot look go? Yes, yes, I realize that sort of thing is very unrealistic, and havign all the exposed machinery is more realistic, but realistic doesn't always equal cool. Sleek, futuristic robots are VERY cool. Exposed gears and wires and tubes are just... junkyard scupltures.

On the contrary, I think the way they look is awesome. I think all sleek and futuristic would be a little weird.

To each his own, haha.

Oh, I agree that it'd look a little weird, but I think that'd be a good thing. I mean, they are from space and everything...

I always preferred Gundam, myself.

I am interested to see how this movie goes, however.

Optimus Prime is the only robot that I'd follow to death.

I just hated the idea of giant robots talking.
I liked the whole "I'm in a Giant Robot controlling its movement" aspect more.

It's probably because the only Transformers I've actually seen was the recent series.

I don't think it's fair to compare Gundam and Transformers. Just because they both have giant robots doesn't mean they're the same genre...

Not really the same genre. New Transformers is kinda crappy. But Old Transformers>Anything to do with Gundam. And Nette, I have watched Gundam. I saw the one with the rapier chick. That, and I saw another one Seed or somthing. I just did not care for Gundam stuff.

Hopefully I'm not posting in the wrong thread, here...

Have you guys read this interview with Peter Cullen? I don't know about anybody else, but it got me pretty amped to see the movie.

Yeah, the designs are iffy-- perhaps even downright lame --but unfortunately, I don't hold much personal nostalgia for Transformers. So I think I'll be able to put it aside and give the movie a chance.

What do you guys think?
