Attitude

I wonder about some people's attitude here.I mean if someone posts a comment and you don't think it applies to the subject why not simply PM then instead of making a embarrassing subject out of it.You know who you are.
If you think a person's comments are not appropiate to a subject let 'em alone instead of making a big deal out of it.
If you post 'You're comments are irrelevant to the subject' all you do is
make the poster feel unwelcomed and make it feel like you're little clique is the only one that can post at that thread.
So check your attitude please.

When someone posts a thread about, say, the latest episode of Lost, they don't want to hear about how your Aunt Gertrude got lost in the mall once. It's poor forum manners. There's no reason to get upset at someone trying to correct your mistake.

By the way, I've seen the mods countless times tell people "Your comments are off the subject, return to the topic of the thread." If a mod tells people to stay on topic in a thread, I'd say that's pretty clear indication that irrelevant comments are at least frowned upon. It also needs to be stated publicly, rather than in a PM, because if you don't say it publicly it runs the risk of someone else taking your off topic comments and bringing the thread even further away from the subject.

I'm pretty much gonna mirror everything Nate said in his post, but I'm also going to add that you shouldn't be offended if someone tells you to stay on topic. Anyone who says that is really just trying to keep the forum well-structured, which it should be. There's a place for almost every conversation on this board; if you want to talk about a certain subject, talk about it in the proper place.

I can't tell you how many times I've visited other forums and seen the complete lack of a constant flow of thought in most threads, or posts that say something to the effect of, "that's cool!" or "I like that band" without expounding upon anything they say. A forum is, by definition, a place for open discussion of certain topics, and if you dismiss those topics in your post or simply state one line of thought without expounding upon it, it kind of defeats the purpose.

At any rate, yeah, that's my two cents. XD

I agree with what Nate and Radical Dreamer have said in this thread. I would also like to add that if you wish to post off topic non-sense, we have an entire forum for that, called goof-off. This is one of the reasons I believe that post count should not show. To some people, seeing their post count increase is a reward for hitting that "Reply" button as often as possible. I suppose I should be thankful that we don't get the "+1" posts here as I have seen on other forums.

I also find it ironic that instead of PMing those that need an "attitude check", you decided to make an entire thread telling them to PM.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

I don't see this thread going anywhere that helpful soon. It has been locked, but here is a general summary:
1) If you want to keep things on topic, be nice about it.
2) If someone says your comments aren't helpful, use it as a chance to reflect on yourself and see if you really have something to say or if you're just scrounging up a vaguely-related comment just so you can post something.
3) If you want to talk to someone specifically, use a PM.
