Blindside

Postby Tommy » Thu Mar 15, 2007 4:39 pm

I've loved Blindside since the song "King of the Closet" was new, and I was in the 3rd grade then. XD

However, I never heard any of the stuff from their self-titled album.

It's sorta interesting to see how much they've changed since "King of the Closet" in style and appearence. Seriously, watch the music video for "Fell in Love with the Game":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_i3x6C_YQc

And then backtrack to their first hit single, "King of the Closet":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10MVcyW5-xk

Sheesh, have they changed!

Anyways, I heard somewhere this isn't necessarily a Christian band anymore.

Thoughts?

The idea that Blindside isn't a Christian band anymore is absolutely retarded. People who think that should listen to the lyrics on their most recent album, The Great Depression and try to tell me they aren't a Christian band. In fact, ALL of their albums are steeped in blatant Christian ideology and philosophy. So, that little fact is totally bogus.

Either way, though, I totally love Blindside. They've been one of my favorite bands since I was about fifteen. Them and Five Iron Frenzy got me through high school unscathed.

What's your favorite CD from Blindside, Kkun?

I actually don't own any of them and I was thinking about finally going out and getting one.

I never thought they weren't Christian, I just remember someone saying it here.

I'm not a huge fan of Blindside, but I definitely love some of their songs. I've only really heard The Great Depression, but from that album my favorite song is My Aliby. I agree with Kkun that their lyrics show they are obviously still a Christian band. I should probably check out some of their older stuff some time.

I've only heard a couple songs off The Great Depression.

Good album, so far.

My favorite album of theirs is either self-titled or A Thought Crushed My Mind but all of their albums are ones that I love. My favorite non-Refused-sounding album of theirs might be About A Burning Fire.

"King of the Closet" is cool because it was kind of their anthem before "About A Burning Fire" came out, but there are better songs on that record like "As You Walk," "My Mother's Only Son," "Nara," "Across Waters," "Nothing But Skin," and "Act."

If you get one, definitely start with A Thought Crushed My Mind. I don't think any of their albums are bad, though. The new ones are just prettier sounding and more polished rock n' roll records. Since you like Showbread, I think you'll dig Blindside.

Didn't they do that song "When I Remember"? I see the video for it a lot on tvulive.com when I launch it.

Yeah, I've sampled their old stuff and it seemed like a darker Showbread (a darker version of No Sir, actually).

So tell me, is that what Showbread's really old stuff sounded like?

Yeah. It was just a lot of screaming over a wall of noise. Showbread didn't even really use synth except for a couple of interludes on Life, Kisses, and Other Wasted Efforts. I wouldn't say darker, just a different kind of heavy. Christian's screaming vocals are a bit deeper than Josh and Ivory's.

Blindside! :thumb:
--and I'm normally not the biggest fan of excessive screaming either... But, something about the way they scream sounds so....'real' or something. --and Christian's regular singing is very nice as well. Shekina, for example. Very nice. :D

That's funny that you like About A Burning Fire the best as a non screamy album...I honestly think that it's their worst. And I still need to pick up A Thought Crushed My Mind...It's their only album that I don't have (re-releases not included.)

I don't know, man. AABF just grew on me so much. I think I like it better than Silence. It has so much depth to it, musically. They do a lot of really experimental things.

I got their self-titled about a month ago.

It's like a blender album.
I hear some grunge, rapcorish themes (ala RAGE), and hardcore punk.

Decent album, overall.

My thoughts exactly.

"Invert", "Superman", "Nerve", "Replay", "This Shoulder" and "One Mind" are in constant rotation on my playlist. Otherwise, it's a little too inconsistent.

I planned on getting Silence first, but whenever I go to get a Blindside CD, all the store usually has is the rereleases of their first two albums and The Great Depression.

You mean 'weak?'

The self-titled album was alright, but nothing above average.
The one that catches my eye that most is "Silence" but I plan on purchasing them in order.

I looooove their self-titled and A Thought Crushed My Mind the best, though. I think it's way above average...or, I just have nostalgia for it 'cause it was one of those records I listened to a lot in high school. It could be either one.
