Which raises the question of just how on Earth do they find these ridiculously old threads in the first place?

It's some kind of secret power. It's kind of like how babies can actually make every sound the human mouth is capable of, but then lose that capacity once they learn speech, y'know? :D

I'm going to hazard a guess that they're using the "search" function and are searching for posts that contain certain key words. The last couple of people I've noticed digging up old threads also had recently dug up threads with a certain theme - one being "teachers" or "school" and the other being "Greece" or "Greek."

Examples of posts that are not useful to any conversation:

"Me too"

"Yep!"

"I agree."

" :sniffle: "

In general, any one/two word post or one/two smiley post falls into this category. There are rare exceptions (except in nonsense threads created just for fun and that encourage such replies) to this rule, but by and large, such posts just are not worth the time it takes to post them.

If you're going to post, post a complete sentence that adds at least one new idea to the topic.

I agree.

I got some new ones:
Be very careful when posting debates. I learned this the hard way.
Don't post anything you wouldn't talk about in polite society.

People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared

Noob = newbie, new person. :)

You don't come across as an idiot. I shudder to think how much of our slang must sound to non-native English speakers.
