I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Like Sir Smoked Meats and Fishies with a side of deep-fried cut potatoes said, it's about the nature of things, not the decision.

It's one thing to decide to stop watching, it's another on why.

And Shia has the right to stop watching for any reason he wants. Doesn't matter if anybody or everybody thinks it's silly. There's no use brow-beating each other over the issue.

*isn't sure if it's worth giving any giant replies, or not*

Ok, I won't reply to anyone specifically, because it just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

There's definitely logic in what I'm trying to say. Proof: ikimasu, Nate, and I are all on the same side. and then there's Triezgamer, but I'm not sure about him. :P

The debate has lost its worth.

MSP, FandC, and macguy do not understand what I'm trying to say, and don't really make an effort to, because they have a totally different stance with spoilers. I guess it's a matter of taste. *shrug*

Fact is, that's that and nothing I say will change their minds. What's the point in continuing? *shrug*

other topic: Wow, I'm so glad I gave Monster another chance! The pace really picks up after the first few episodes. ^_^

If you think my shpeal has been about spoilers this whole time, I'm afraid you're very much mistaken. I simply think you're turning away from the series for a rather frivolous reason. Whether it was spoiled for you or you watched the next couple of episodes anyway, you'd have found out and then lost interest. If you're going to do that, fine, but it's your loss.

I can only hope Monster doesn't suffer a similar dismissal. Naoki Urasawa needs more fans.

No, I don't, I just think it's your taste that leads you to believe what you believe about my reason to stop watching. I can't change that. :)

and like I said, maybe in the future, I'll watch it all the way through.

It doesn't? Then why'd you say this on page 1?

Fish and Chips wrote:Spoilers usually don't affect my enjoyment of a series. I've read/watched FullMetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, Hellsing, Death Note, 20th Century Boys, and Monster all knowing some details or facets of the plot ahead of time (in the case of Death Note and Monster, I saw their endings before I ever read page 1).

Isn't this according to your tastes? If it is, then that's why you believe my reason for discontinuing Death Note isn't good enough, isn't it?

Sorry, I'm... sorta curious. >_>

In brief, as it seems the majority of my long-winded posts have gone unread, I think you've stopped on a dime for a frivolous reason. This next part may seem a tad rant-ish, so take it with a grain of salt (and also, the Internet deleted my previous message, so I'm kind of miffed).

Your favorite character dies, and now the series is dead to you? No. That character is dead to you, and apparantly that character was the only reason you were invested in the Anime in the first place if you can so easily write off everything else, which you do. "All I did was choose not to continue watching it." Please. Death Note is not an Anime you just choose not to continue watching. The source Manga's a pageturner. The author pull some strings for the sake of the plot, and now you're sad or annoyed or whatever that it didn't go along the route you wanted. That's the vibe I'm getting here.

Small deviation:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:Yes, spoilers can be a good thing when you like them, but that's ONLY when you like them. If you don't like them, then they're never a good thing.

But then again, you also won't like it when it occurs naturally, which should be in a couple of episodes. Series isn't spoiled, you watch until roughly the end of March, and then the series is dead to you. That's the point I was originally making about spoilers.

Right.
Shia Kyosuka wrote:I doubt anything as important as this is going to happen, as nothing before this was close to something of this happening's importance.

Besides, this anime only has 38 episodes, and it's already more than half-way through. Not to mention the fact that whatever the spoiler revealed hasn't even happened yet. It doesn't have that much more time for anything more important to happen, besides the ending. o_o

"It doesn't have that much more time for anythingmore important to happen, besides teh ending." That spoiler? Most horrible spoiler ever? It happens in volume 7 of the Manga. Of a 12 volume series. Still much more proverbial stuff to hit the fan, at least 5 volumes of it. This is the half-way house. Not that it matters anymore.

And that, in an odd indirect way, annoys me. Very much so.

Honestly.

FandC, you probably wouldn't be so annoyed if you wouldn't have assumed that just because of something like that, the series is dead to me.

I'd like you to show me once where I said
Oh, woe is me, L is dead, so therefore Death Note isn't my favorite ever anymore and I'll never watch it ever again! L should've lived! LIVED!
Wait, I DIDN'T say that. You just assumed that's what I meant even after I told you that's not what I was saying!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

The content of the spoiler has nothing to do with it. It's the fact that it was a spoiler.

Really, how long are you going to keep this going? Are you trying to convince me that the content of the spoiler is the cause of me not watching? Because that's the vibe you're giving off.

And why are you taking my exaggerations so literally?

Why?

It's his own choice if he wants to stop watching. If you don't think that's a good thing for him to do, cool, more power to you. But he's already given his reasons for not wanting to watch it, and by now, if I were him, I'd be totally burnt out on it anyways, just because this argument is so ridiculous. XD This is anime, people, not the end of the world. The principal involved isn't even that important (you're kidding yourself if you think it is XD). Can we pleeeaaase just drop this now? XD;

Could we perhaps just go back to recommending alternate titles? That would be super.

That said, you might try Case Closed. It's not so serious as Death Note, but it has a "mystery" theme, and the cases and their solutions are usually well thought-out. I enjoy it.

That's essentially what I stated in the first place except in a higher vocabulary. I said that it's all a matter of subjectiveness. My emphasis always tried to deal with "my opinion".

Now, to get away from topic, mind trying to explain to me what's so good about Death Note? All i see is a guy who passes notes that kill people. He used to be good but now the murder is for enjoyment? I don't mind reading a bit of spoilers because that might be what could gain my interest. Don't get me wrong, you're job is not to convince me but I'm primarily interested in what makes this anime so popular. At least I hear a lot about it during my time online.

Just be sure you write yours using the spoiler tags. Failing to do so is considered extremely rude.

Now, to get away from topic

Actually this spoiler was extremely predictable and the main character was planning on committing this act ever since the "meeting" of these two characters.

How would you know if something is the climax of the series if you're almost at the beginning?

I enjoy watching it because of the "battle of wits" between the characters. It's amazingly fun to watch. XD For a shounen series, it's got a lot of intrigue, and I find that particularly enjoyable. I'm only about 9 episodes in (I haven't had the time to watch it recently XD; ), but I've enjoyed every episode that I've seen. Plus, the animation is absolutely gorgeous. :D

*Head/desk.*

Assumed?

Since everyone in the boat (myself included) wants to get off this topic, I'll try to sweep it under the rug as quickly as I can. Because I really didn't want this to blow up in every one's face. The following post is meant to be explanatory, not argumentative.

Let's review, shall we? Here's the original post that inadvertently started this debacle:
Raiden no Kishi wrote:My avatar is L from Death Note. Why? Because L is one of my favorite characters. He's a weird, silly, yet [snip to avoid more pointless drama] brilliant.
Or at least he WAS, until the mangaka had him killed and replaced with two dorks. : : shakes fist : :
And Shai's response:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:.....

*sigh*

Looks like I'll be finding a new favorite anime. -_-

Followed by Shia's new signature:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:Death Note....

Most horrible spoiler ever....

*crushed*

And by Shia's new thread:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:Somebody please help me...

Death Note was my most favorite anime ever, but now it's been spoiled... so much, I really don't want to watch it anymore.

Somebody give me another anime on this one's level to help me get over it.

And by Shai's response to my initial response:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:What do you mean, don't give up my fandom?

Death Note's dead to me now. ._.

Just give me another anime that you feel can replace Death Note for me.

So I mentally tally everything up from your posts

Pre-Spoiler
"Most favorite Anime ever."

Post-Spoiler
"Looks like I'll be finding a new favorite anime. -_-"
"I really don't want to watch it anymore."
"Death Note's dead to me now. ._."

Spoiler
L dies.
And the Exciting Conclusion of Fish's thought process
...So I see.

Now as I've already said, and repeatedly so (with blunt instruments), I can see how a spoiler would interfere with ones enjoyment of any series. Everyone seems to be mentally cutting that out of my posts. I get you people! Spoiler, spoiling, spoiled, it all adds up]this is where my thought process eats its own head in confusion:
Shia Kyosuka wrote:I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

The content of the spoiler has nothing to do with it. It's the fact that it was a spoiler.

This is where I disagree with you, and have apparantly been wasting my time trying to bring to your attention. If it's the fact that it was a spoiler is enough to drive you off, I could've tossed in the identity of the 3rd Kira and you'd have made this thread. Spoilers never just ruin a series because they are spoilers, it's because of what they specifically spoil. And you seem to think otherwise, which completely baffles me. What you're communicating to me is that had you watched the series of your own accord, seen the spoiler (no doubt by the end of March at the latest), you would not have lost interest in the series, but kept watching. Seeing how you reacted to the spoiler in question, the series fall from grace, needing a new show, the oft-recycled "dead to me" comment, I can only conceive that had you seen in on your own time, you'd still be just as disenchanted with the series, except it would be then instead of now. Why? Not because of who the 3rd Kira is. Not because of what Misa-Misa is advertising for. But because of what specifically happened to that specific character.

You repeatedly stress otherwise. I'm not seeing it. And that's what I've been needling away at.

You can be right about loosing enjoyment Kyosuka. I just doubt that you have any logical reason to stop watching Death Note. Now if the spoiler presented a bad story line then I would understand. It's your decision of course but there's just something odd with that thinking in my opinion.

...I can't even believe what I'm reading. Jokes. Exagerations. Nice save.

If you're under the impression that I'm actually enjoying this, or that I simply have to be right, you're the one making assumption. Or parting shots, and I'm tempted to think the later. Because no matter what I say, you seem perfectly content to write me off "You just don't understand." I was trying to a while back, and just recently trying to clarify, but I guess that's just too much.

This whole mess could have easily been avoided if we'd just waited a month till this thread was made anyway.

Gah, you guys, please. XD This is NOT a big deal. It's an anime. Arguing over something so completely trivial is both a waste of time and bandwidth. Who cares if Shia doesn't want to finish the series? That's his choice, and by the Constitution, he's got the right to make it. XD Please, let's not drag this thread any further into the depths of pure pointlessness. O_o
