I would pose to you that the stereotypical idea of "in love" where you see someone or get to know someone and you get that warm fuzzy feeling, and can't stop thinking about them... is different than actually loving someone. the sensation above doesn't last. That's where so many marriages come in to trouble. They don't realize that this feeling that Hollywood has been toting as love for so many decades is transient. It comes and it goes. In order for any marriage or romantic relationship to last, you need a more permanent love founded in reason, compassion, and level headedness.

Edit: Sorry for the DP!! :red:

And I am fully aware of that. However, for marriages to work, it has to be founded on something other than simply lust, which is, unfortuantely, what so many of today's marriages are based on. While reason and level headedness does play a part, it isn't the most important thing - actually caring for one another is. And of course, having God's seal of approval on it.

I wonder if you've noticed that you've been contradicting yourself in some points.
K. Ayato: What happens if you press the small red button?

mechana2015: Does that answer your question?

K. Ayato: Perfectly.

Not really. You can choose to run from love. People do it every day of their lives if they aren't Christian. They continually run from God's love. And God's love is a perfect love.

Love is a choice, plain and simple. You can choose to love someone. If you feel that you do love someone, you can choose to ignore it, or run away from it.

That's the thing. When love is meant for someone, it won't always happen. Like I said, God's love is meant for every human being. But people still reject it. So you can't say "When it's meant for someone, it will happen, regardless of their will." If that were true there wouldn't be any non-Christians. No, love is a choice, and it's meant to be a choice because if it wasn't, we'd either be preprogrammed robots, or we'd be no better than animals. After all, in mating season, animals don't "choose" who to mate with, it just happens with whatever female they happen to be around.

It makes my stomach churn, and makes me want to slap them. They fling the term around blatantly, without any regard for its true meaning. What causes them to view every relationship as 'love'? Why can't they recognize infatuation? I've never understood that. Not at all...how can they call something love when they don't any the slightest clue as to what it really is? I overheard two kids talking, both about 12, and one asks the other...
"Do you like anybody right now?"
"No, I love somebody. He's the greatest guy ever!"
Any my response? "...give me a break."

Someone tell me, why can't they see their puppy love for what it is?

Yeah. It drives me nuts when that happens. :bang:

Right on. I also felt is should be pointed out that Paul commanded women to "Love their husbands." That in itself demonstrates a conscious choice in something. You can choose to resent a person, or you can choose to love them. Love and hate are both equal choices that sometimes we can forget are choices just simply because we let our emotions rule us.

I wish I could remember the full thing, but I'm remembering bits and pieces of a C.S. Lewis quote. He said something to the effect of that if you treat someone in the way you treat a person you love, you would eventually end up loving them, and if you treat someone in the way you treat a person you disdain, you'd end up disliking them even more. So yeah, I guess that further goes to show Nate's point of love being a conscious choice.
