Define "romantic love" and how it seperates from "brotherly love".

"Brotherly love" is totally unselfish and puts the needs of the other person above your own. "Romantic love" puts the other person above everyone else as well.

I may have summed that up way too much; others may feel free to expand on it and/or correct it. ^_^;

The truth is, sure, you can have a best friend and a significant other, but, no you can't love them both the same. It just doesn't work that way.

actually, your significant other and your best friend should be the same thing. You can have a close friend that would otherwise be your best friend. But the best romantic relationships should be more than just physical attraction and admiration. sooner or later, you have to sit down with your better half and just hang out. My wife is more to me than some girl who I come home to everynight after work and take out to dinner from time to time. She's also the woman who I play Halo2 with and share my deepest feelings with. So basically, saying that the two can't be the same is BUSTED (yea, I love Mythbusters). However, If your significant other and your best friend are 2 differant people then... yea... they are differant.

In a general sense, brotherly love mostly differs from romantic love in the following:

"Dude, you're cool but no, I do not want to procreate with you or engage in any activity that may lead to that. Thank you."

At least, that's my personal view. Heh.

Well it is true that you can "crush" before your hormones really wreak havoc on your mind/life/wellbeing [XD], but I'm willing to bet there's some physical attraction involved. Besides, a "crush" doesn't fit under any definition of love I use. XD

It's simple: Would you kiss your best friend full on the mouth? Would you shake your wife's hand?
As for myself, I'm afraid that due to 25 years' worth of lack of experience, I have very little to say on the subject of romance. On the other side of the proverbial coin however, I can only say that I don't believe in "best friends". I just think it intones favoritism, which doesn't belong in friendships.
