Question on New DBZ season 1 dub

Postby AnubisWerewolf » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:18 am

How is the new dubb to season one of the newly remastered version of DBZ season 1. Any good? Personally I liked the one that they had on Cartoon Network is a riot. OVER NINE THOUUUUSSAAAANDD!!!!!! You get the drift. And do they have that dubb still on the discs or is it replaced by the new one? Any help on this matter will be appreciated!

Wait, they made a new dub? If that's true, that's terrible! XD The old dub might sound pretty bad, but I wouldn't watch it with other VAs for the world. XD Too many old memories! XD

From my understanding,

When FUNimation did the dubbing for DBZ years ago, they never did a uncut version of the dub.

In 2005, FUNimation made plans to put out Ultimate Uncut Special Editions of DBZ and since they were going to be uncut, they had to redo the dub.

Ohh, I see. Well, did they use the same VAs? I might not mind it so much if the VAs are at least the same. XD

According to the ads I have seen the new DVDs are based on the Japanese masterworks.

The old school dub only lasted through the Freeza saga, I believe. The rest was dubbed with different VA's (Cell, Androids ect.) and the redub of the early episodes was done with those actors.

Really? Even for Goku and Gohan? If so...I really must not have been big on paying attention to voices in the 6th grade. XD

Normal users can't, actually, so you're fine. I've edited the title.

Like Azier said, the first few seasons of DBZ (and the first three movies) were originally dubbed by the Ocean Group in Vancouver and distributed by Pioneer(Geneon).
Funimation later started dubbing the series in-house with their Texas voice actors and re-dubbed over everything Ocean had done.

Shouldn't this topic be in the anime forum?

Personally, I like the fact they redubbed it. Some of the cornier dialogue from the original version got on my nerves.

"I'm going to send you to ANOTHER DIMENSION!!! *blows up city* Haha! That'll sho... aww, shoot. I see parachutes. Everybody survived!"

Funimation redubbed originally back in '05.One of the things they did in it was
use the VAs from later on,Sean Schemmel(sp?) as Goku, etc.and used them from
episode #1.The problem with the original dub is that there were two different casts.
the first several episodes were done by a different company and then Funimation
took over.So when they did the '05 redub they had the cast from Funimation redo the entire thing from start to finish so it would be more consistent.

Indeed it should. I tend not to navigate via forums, so I don't notice. Thanks for catching that.

The $50,000,000 Question is:When is CN going to reshow DBZ or any Dragonball
again?
