Translating Japanese Song Lyrics

Postby Fionn Fael » Sun Jan 28, 2007 3:12 pm

I have the original soundtrack for Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, but the cd booklet is entirely in Japanese. There are only two songs from the game that have words, but only one has an English version. I'd like to know what the words in the other song mean, but I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to the Japanese language.

I've found the lyrics in Romaji (Japanese words written in Roman characters), but my only means of translating them is my Japanese/English dictionary, which doesn't contain everything I need. :( Can anyone help me with this?

Here are the lyrics in Romaji:

Hoshizukiyo (NOTE: I believe this means "starry night", but I'm not sure.)

Shiokaze ni mukai
Me o tojireba

Omoi o haseru
Aoi kokage

Tookuwa datsumi koetakara da o
Ima wa tada iyashitai

Kotoba wa naku tomo
Me o awasereba

Kayoi atta kokoro
Shinji aeta yume

Te no hira o sashinobete kureta nakamatachi ni
Orei o ... arigatou

Ayumi o tomesou ni natta
Toki ni ukanda haha no kao

Kazoku no moto e ima sugu kaeritai
Namida koraeta hoshizukiyo

Tabidatta koro no
Jibun to kurabereba

Tsuyoku natteru kana?
Dattara sukoshi ureshii

Tsuki naki yoru mo
Terashi aeba
Ayumi tsuzukerareru michi

Hikari afureru hoshizukiyo

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

Hmm, I can only suggest using an online dictionary which translates romanji to English. That might be time consuming, but it's the only way I can think of.

I can't translate it, but i found the lyrics in English online. here they are:

When I face the sea breeze
And close my eyes

My thoughts turn to
The green and leafy shade

Having crossed the distant seas
I just want to heal my body now

Even without words
If our eyes should meet

Our hearts, reaching one another
The dreams we both believed in

To the friends who held out their hands to me
I thank you

When my steps were slowing to a stop
I would recall my mother's face

I want to return to my family at once
Starry moonlit night, choking back tears

Compared to when
I set off on my journey

Have I grown stronger?
That'd make me happy

Even on moonless nights
If we shine on one another
We can keep walking down this road

Starry moonlit night, overflowing with light

Whew!

I would suggest going to animelyrics.com. They have a great source for translating anime and video game songs.
