My wife draged me into the tampon isle!!!

Talk about anything in here.

Hey Hakaii, here's a heads up. My mom and my dad talked to be about that stage of development.

I do agree with you that it's way too early for your wife to even be thinking about what to get for the little one.

I said it once and I'll say it again... buying that stuff isn't an issue. I've done it before, but I don't want to know the PARTICULARS of why they are needed. what gets to me is that I don't want to think about my little baby needing those kind of things until a certain age you know? seriously, most of what I've read so far is hits on my maturity and masculinity. some of you just don't get what my problem is. its not an akward guy moment.... its an akward FATHER moment. yes both my wife and I are going to ahve those talks with our daughter together, but I like leaving my wife as the authority on the female internal organs. I don't want to know WHY she is going to need those things, I'll take their word on it, OK? all I really need to know on the subject is what I as a father need to do to help her.

You missed my point, Hakaii. When both my parents discussed it, they covered EVERYTHING. Even the internal organs bit.

THANK YOU!! see, right now, I'm worried about things like early labor and general safety of the BABY. (by the way, I finnaly found a stroller and carseat that is good enough, found it at babies 'R us) thinking about all the distant problems that may arrise will just get me distracted from problems in the present. and making the issue of feminine items such a big deal is just comecial. seriously, I don't know, nor care how that stuff works, I'm not going to reverse engineer the darn thing for cryin out loud! all I need to know is what brand, what size and what price. it should be like any other product that someone has to buy. why give it its own aisle? why not leave it between the tiolet paper and the shaving cream? why does it require nearly an entire aisle?! and why do I need to know all about it?

This serves as an adequate segue into the logic point in the argument. Heck, I've bought these things before, but my wife hates telling me to because the manufactuer changes the branding. I can't just remember WHAT to buy, because they change product identifiers, box/bag colors and everything else.

My advice: Assume this is something that comes along with the "bliss of motherhood." She impulsively shares this information with you because, hey, she might forget to later. By the time she does ask you to pick them up on your own, do a little sincere (or at least sincere sounding) self-deprication ("Honey, you know my memory isn't that good...") and then ask for the brand/quantity/price information.

RUN??!!! not a chance in... (excuse me for a few minutes while I go say somethings you not going to want to hear) ok, you call this dangerous?? this is just pestering!! dangerous is not a problem for me. I love this child and will give my life and more for her and my family, so don't expect me to give up any time this century. why is it that when a man makes a statement about something bothering him, people think he's going to do something irresponcible to get out of the situation. just last month, my wife talked to this woman at the MVD and when my wife mentioned me the woman assumed I was her boyfriend and not her husband. (ok, in this day and age, its not uncommon for a woman to be pregnant out of marrage but...) aftermy wife corrected her, she STILL INSISTED ON REFERING TO ME AS A "BOYFRIEND". and went on to state how I'll PROBABLY LEAVE HER JUST BEFORE THE BABY IS BORN!!! *WHAT.....IS.....UP....WITH....THAT!!!!!!*

is it just me, or does it seem like some older women accuse ALL men of being jerks and it seems to have spread in our generation? I don't know, maybe its just me. but really, please tell me if I took that statement wrong (because I wish I did), because the way I took it, that was really insulting.

I blame this two things:
1. The free love movement
2. Women's liberation (for what it did to MEN).

The more I think about it, though, the less inclined I am to explain why this is. It'll just spark debates.

Most likely, the women who say that kind of thing DID end up with real jerks, and they project their experience onto the general population. It's sad, really.

I have to admit, I have uttered the phrase, "Men are pigs." That was back in high school, when I knew nothing of MEN anyway. I RECANT! I RECANT! I only said it back then because some boy had acted like a pig, so that was my immediate experience. I can now say with great joy that there is (at least) one really wonderful man in the world, and he's mine. :)

Oh man, I hate when girls use the phrase "men are pigs." I'm like, "What? That's quite a generalization. Is your father a pig? He's not? Then do you not consider him a man? I thought you said all men were pigs. Hmmmm. . ." Sure, maybe some guys are jerks, but certainly not all guys. Some women could be assigned various adjectives that I would be offended if I heard assigned to my gender in general. One person's mistakes shouldn't be considered the standard behavior of their entire sex.

(But just so you know, I'm pretty sure the original comment made about you "running" was a joke. I definitely took it that way. ;) )
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

All the genuine guys just live elsewhere, just like all the genuine girls don't live in Australia! (lol)

Okay, there are a few here.

Hakaii, ooh. I would be quite embarrassed to, but I guess it's part of the husband's job. Don't remember reading that in the contract? The fine print man, you've got to read the fine print!

That's awesome that you have a little girl on the way. God Bless you, your wife and soon-to-be baby girl!

hahaha.
okay.
seriously. why cant men just accept that... women use tampons.
some of you on here do.
and i'm not just directing this to hakaii its those other dudes.
really.
hahahaha
but i do have to agree that it was kinda odd that hakaii your wife sent you down that isle and had to explain it to you about which is which.
my mom just writes down the brand and stuff and sends my dad off.
actually one time he came back with a better type of tampon than my mom asked for and i got to use them and i was soooo happy!
hahaha
anyways....
i'm not going to explain all the little details to my husband but i am going to send him down that isle once in a while when i need him to.
gosh. i dont know why men are so grossed out by it. its not like they have to use them. and its just an isle filled with those things women need. not that big of a deal. so what if its right next to the deodorant isle.
pffft.
but i have to say i got quite a laugh out of this thread.
^_^
haha

Alright, you all got me blushing big time, but I'm going to post it anyway.

I've always found husbands buying their wifes feminine hygiene products romantic.; men taking a hit to their macho pride and dignity to go buy their wife something she needs. He does not HAVE to do it and she probably CAN go do it herself, but he does it for her because he's trying to make things easier for her. I know a lot of women think men are obligated to do it, but I don't think thats fair and the guys should get credit for doing something they might find embarrassing but do anyway for their wifes sake. I'm critical of men, I know, but I try to go easy on the one's that are making an effort.

Right. I agree. I think a man (And I mean a MAN. Not a male) should go out and buy these things without fear or embarrassment. Sure a guy may feel awkward doing so at first, but there's really nothing to fear about. A man should be able to sacrifice his "pride" for the woman he loves.

A side note: I must say I am highly amazed how of all the things to talk about, we're talking about female hygiene products.

:lol: I think this wins the prize for "the ONE topic you thought CAA would never discuss"...

But yup, it's all about dropping the macho pride. Who would a guy rather show off to more? Some guys his age snickering at the side of the store of the aisle he's going down (if they even exist, but just hypothetically), or his girlfriend/wife? Ok, I'm not a guy obviously, but know what I mean?

Also, it's not only good to be macho enough to buy it, but some guys aren't even man enough to talk serious on those type of issues. I've already seen guys (ok, this was a few years ago, so maturity levels aren't really there) and once a girl mentioned something, and all I heard from the guy was "whoa! Too much in-for-ma-ti-on! Lalala! *plugs ears* I'm not listening!" >_< Like oy, when I get married I'd want to be able to discuss, well, anything on a mature level, instead of the guy not even able to speak of such things :/
