Thoughts On The Sailor Moon Sub

Postby mitsuki lover » Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:19 am

Ok since I finally watched an episode of Sailor Moon Super S subbed here are some thoughts I had:

*Opening Theme:A lot more mature than the dub

*No irritating dialogue between Chibiusa and Pegasus as there was between
Rini and Pegasus in the dream sequence

*The Lita-Thinks-Chibiusa's-Msytery-Boyfriend-Is-An-Upper-Classman
gag that ran through the episode was funny

*Usagi is actually JEALOUS of Chibiusa in the sub and even says
one "D**mn"

Overall the sub I found to be actually better and more fun to watch.
At least neither Chibiusa nor Usagi had as irritating voices as in the dub.

it's too bad ADV won't re-release their unedited version. I've been dying to watch the real thing.

They can't re-release it. ADV doesn't have the license for it anymore. The licencse for Sailor Moon Sub expire in March of 2004.

Yeah, it's a pity about Sailor Moon's licensing situation. I'd like to have a copy of at least Classic on DVD (subbed, yay--I couldn't stand the dub for more than 5 minutes), but I don't see that happening any time soon. XD

High pitched Japanese girl voices get highly irritating after a long while, and I've grown up with the dub version, so I'm partial to their voices. I am a little irked by the editing because I'm sure there are little things that I missed, but the last time I watched Sailor Moon subbed...I wanted to throttle them all.

The uncut sub is more mature which makes it easier to watch in front of people.
I got all the imported uncut Sailor Moon's to replace the tapes on my shelf.
I watched all of them from start to finish. I do like the uncut sub better than the cut dub. I just wish Sailor Moon had come out now when licensors do not try to dumb down anime. If it came out today the dub would be alot better.

The Sailor Moon dub is what introduced me to anime (along with many other anime fans) so it will always have a special place in my heart^^ That doesn't mean I think it is a wonderful piece of dubbing work, tho.. ^^;

The Sailor Moon English dub gets bashed all the time, but we have to realize that, at the time it was shown on American TV, "cartoons" were only considered as Children's Programming. It was licensed and marketed as such. I have no problem with that at all. It never would have made it's way over here otherwise =D

Despite the dub voices, all the edits, cut episodes and changes, this series had a great impact and introduced a vast amount of people to the genre of anime. The most amazing thing about the dub is the music! I think it's incredible that they made a whole new background score and tons of vocals for the dub! As silly as some of the songs may be, they are catchy and stick in your head for years =P

I'm thankful that Sailor Moon was brought to America and at least Pioneer/Geneon released the uncut bilingual DVDs for S and SuperS seasons^^

The version I have is the Geneon version I should add.Though I wasn't trying to
bash the dub.The one character that was the same in both versions was Ami/Amy.
I think they did a good job in the dub in finding someone who was able to match
the way the original sounded.
