Marriage anyone? Anyone at all?

Talk about anything in here.

Marriage anyone? Anyone at all?

Postby Heed » Tue Jan 09, 2007 7:26 pm

Hey. Well, I am anything but new here but I havn't been around CAA for a while because of work, graduating college, and getting engaged.

Anyway, I am getting married on Feb. 10, 2007 and I am about to tear out my hair... I can't wait for the wedding to be over. Seriously, planning the event is so stressful you will pray for it to be over with so you can just enjoy life with your mate.

I am just wondering if anyone else here is in my shoes... Or anyone who has just gotten engaged or married here? Give a shout. It's great. I love my future bride. She is mazing however I sometimes wanna just jump off a bridge. Lol... j/k
The Straight and Narrow

I chose to walk the straight and narrow road, but one day I lost balance and fell off it. I had fallen onto some sharp rocks and injured myself. There were people passing by who would merely stare at me, and then keep walking. Thoughts of worthlessness entered into my mind, and as I chose to believe the lies, my wounds grew worse. I was so overcome with grief that I nearly gave up... but then a man walked up to me and stopped. Without saying a word, he started to wrap my wounds, he gave me some water, and then lifted me up and embraced me. He then whispered these words into my ear, "I love you my child." As he said those words I could feel all the worthlessness and despair fall away. He then held out his hands. They had huge holes in them. He then said, "Walk with me." I then took his hand and we walked together. Every now and then I would fall from the road, but no matter where I fell, he was always there to pick me up and tell me that He loved me.

 I like to think i'll love my future husband too much to do this to him. This is why i'm planning on having a tiny ceremony with just immediate family....and then inviting everyone else to a picnic luncheon. They have to bring stuff. :P I'd rather tell them to bring food & not worry about gifts. That way it's more fun & far less stress. (yea...am i completely out of touch of reality? I scare people when i say this stuf. That and the 'get married in blue jeans' bit ;) )

Anyways, man i wish you luck...no taking short jumps off tall buildings, k? Hope the date comes quickly & you have a beautiful joyful wedding & future w/ your wife. :)

Congratulations, Heed! :)

Just a month to go... the wedding will be over, and then you and your bride can relax and just be together. It'll all be worth the craziness, then.

I planned my (and Mithrandir's) wedding almost by myself, so I know how stressful it is. Just think... It's even more stressful for your fiancé. Almost certainly.

Just keep looking forward to February 11th. :thumb:

Congrats! I know how you feel about the stress before the wedding. I was one of the bridesmaids for my cousin Grace, and during wedding rehearsal, she just lost it. I mean, she was crying her eyes out. Everything was going crazy, but somehow everything fell into place the next day.

I'm not engaged yet; however, I know 14 couples getting married by this July, and I'll be a bridesmaid for one in March. Needless to say, I'm surrounded by crazy people!

Yeah, it's stressful, but you just have to remember why you're doing it. And too, though I'm not the expert, I think it's important to keep your cool about details. Will people really remember if the napkins were peach instead of peach flesh? Will someone remark to your beautiful bride if she uses scalloped silverware rather than pronged? My point is that people get caught up in all these little details that don't REALLY matter--that no one will even notice--spend themselves into a hole, and then feel utterly exhausted by the time the big day is there!

You can do this! You'll be just fine. And don't forget to post pictures!

I got engaged, I am getting married towards the end of this year. :)

Yes, it can be rather stressful, with the planning of the events in the ceremony, the banquet, the items, the people who will be helping out, the renting of the limo, the speech, the games. And then there is the honeymoon planning and the mortgage...

Ah.... a whole project unto itself. LOL

Congrats! My wife and I got married in May, 2006. We went through kind of the same thing... at first. After we started to plan out things, we decided to just go to the County courthouse and get married quickly. (If we waited any longer, we would've gone nuts) While this sounds a little cheap and easy, we do have plans for a nice weding with family and friends. When I get into the Air Force, we are going to renew our vows in a really nice ceremony.

Out of touch with reality or not, I respect that -- mostly because I want the same thing for myself -- though I don't intend to be adamant about it, I find most girls I meet want a 'normal' ceremony, so I don't think I'll be getting such a treatment.

Both of my parents were remarried after a while being single -- and both of them took a minimalistic approach to the wedding. My dad took it to excess and didn't have a ceremony at all -- no one was invited, because they just went to a court house and had the paperwork done. My mother's wedding, though, felt way more personal than any weddings I've ever been to.

Heed: Congratulations, and don't let the stress get to you too much. Prayer can also work wonders. I hope you have a wonderful time.
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.
All alone at the top of the hill, I watch as the seasons go by.

Wishing for courage softly, I pray.
There's no going back now, to those tender days when you held me in your arms.

So now we know for sure that K.Ayato is female.

Personally myself whenever I find Miss Right I think I'll just skip the entire formal ceremony and elope.Less stress on everybody involved.

No it's something you think you won't have to deal with because you have no self esteem.

Me?

On the other hand, congrats Heed! I think all the stress will be worth the fact you're getting married, right? :thumb:

Not all priests are celibate. I'm dating a pastor-to-be, which is in biblical terms the same office. Though seeing him in his clerical robes does confuse a lot of my friends.

Well, thanks for the support. Luckily I made the decision that I am not doing Tuxes. Black suits with a white shirt and appropriate colored tie will do nicely. No limo, just my fiancee's car (because hers get more miles to the gallon and hers is a bit newer than mine :p) Anyway, yah, I am not as nervous about the wedding as I am about the money and bills situation. I just graduated Bible college last Spring and now she is done. We both have school bills however mine are much much more than hers. She had financial support in college, my parents wanted to help me but I know they could not so I had more loans.

We both are going to be missionaries in JApan as well, however we need some form of missionary support that wll help with all our bills.

That is the most stressful thing for me right now. :X

Don't worry about the finances, God will provide you with what you need^^ I mean, I've heard SO many amazing stories of people who have prayed for financial aid, and miraculous things have occured^^ But I understand about all the worry with that on top of a wedding... I'll be praying and I hope things work out great for everything^^

I'm all for simple ceremonies, but in my case, I want to do whatever my lady wants whenever that time might be. It seems like the less you choose to worry about, the more enjoyable the experience will be for everyone. It's really about the marriage, not the wedding ceremony.

Congratulations to all those who are getting married! I hope it is not too stressful! And like someone said, it's more about the beginning of marriage relationship than the ceremony. It's sort of like graduation--once the ceremony is over, you're just glad to be out of school. You may talk about the ceremony a few times after that--but not a whole lot. :)

My wife and I are going on our 5th year in 2007. ^_^

My advice is... ELOPE! Save your money and the stress. What you want is to BE married, so just do that and then go have fun. Your mom can cry and eat cake in the comfort of her home, while you send the family pictures from your honeymoon. ;)

Seriously though. Marriage is one of the greatest gifts that God has given us, enjoy eachother.

EDIT: BTW why didnt I know that you guys were all praying about going to Japan as missionaries!? My wife and I are in school now preparing for the Lords service in the same area. We should seriously talk some time.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Congrats to all the engaged couples and newlyweds.

Just go cheap! Cheapo weddings are a little known benefit to being poor. My Mom and Dad were married in home made dress with borrowed tuxes (they one was yellow and the other powder blue!), the picture man was a friend who volunteered (the one and only picture of my folks is blurry), and my grandparents church is so country, the didn't replace the out houses until less than ten years ago! My grandma married my grandpa in a pant suit after a bus ride from WV to Missouri with no family present in front of a justice of the peace on the Air Force Base, then went back to her mother until the paychecks for a married couple started to arrive! My closest friend who grew up just down the road told me her Mom got married in overalls! (You Canadians are crazy.) When my oldest cousin got married, the dinner was a pot luck at the church and the cake was a sheet cake bought at Foodland!
