There are a LOT of things I could say the truth about And I'd loose half of my freinds, get banned from all counties, and loose my Job. But the term White Lie is what's kept everything calm in my life. Sometimes lieing is just...Inevitable. A must.

Don't give false testimony is only one instance of lying the Bible discusses... It also says "the liars will not enter the kingdom of heaven" There are other places besides the ten commandments that the Bible says not to lie.

Jesus says that all of the commandments can be summed up in two. Love God, and Love your neighbor as yourself. Love is described elsewhere, including the most famous definition in I Corinthians 13. That's our plumbline, right there.

I'd say (in regard to Volt) that there is a fairly big difference between lying and having a bit of tact. It's one thing to say "no, you're a moron" and another to say "that's not correct."

I think that there are some truthful things that we should not say, because they are unproductive, don't build someone up, or can hurt your witness. For example, telling someone they annoy you, when they don't ask, is not always the best thing to do. If they ask me point blank, I probably couldn't lie. I just wanted to illustrate that there is a difference between holding your tongue when you can say something true that is hurtful, and lying.

That is a good point. Many times negative, hurtful feelings towards other people come from pride, envy, or anger. All of these are sinful, and probably don't reflect the truth. Still, if you love your friends, you will want to help them become better people, and that may mean telling them some hard truths at times.

We talked about this is an ethics class I am taking, we all came to the conclusion that probably only when you have to lie to save anothers life, like Rahab in the Bible lied about the spies and was blessed.

There is a diffrence between lieing and simply not telling the truth, as in keeping your mouth shut.

I see no dishonor in holding your tounge when nessecary but i would never lie.

Is it okay to lie in these situations? Is it okay to lie on applications and at interviews to get a job? Is it okay to lie to myself to try to cure myself of emotional problems?

I'm just wondering if I am going to get ANYWHERE in life if I remain honest.

I think honesty can be a double-edged sword and needs to be used wisely.

I think it's OK to NOT express your disappointment in presents, but I learnt to appreciate ppl's gifts so that I no longer lie. "The thought counts, not the gift itself." I can recall the countless times, my mum and aunt shower me with pink, fluffy, girly stuff. I hate baby pink and fluffiness but I know that's how they care for me so I'm very happy with the gifts. Do I make sense saying this?

It is not OK to be honest when your intention is to insult, hurt or mock someone. While being honest is good, but it's not a legitimate reason to let your wicked tongue loose.

It is not OK to lie on applications or interviews. I won't do it even if I had to starve. But that's not going to happen, coz God will provide legitimate ways for us to get a job.

It is OK to encourage yourself. But how you do it is important.

Which are you saying:

OPTION 1
I'm fine, smart and beautiful.
Everyone loves me and I am happy! *fake smile*
I will overcome this and win through it all.
It's painful but I will persevere.

Vs.

OPTION 2
God can make something beautiful and good out from me.
God loves me and made me the way He intended.
God gives me strength and wisdom and will carry me through my tough times.
God knows my weaknesses and will help me to overcome it (if I'm willing heh).
God has great plans for me.
I'm worthed it coz God died for me and I live.
I am special in God's eyes, He would never let me go.

Is the latter lying? Don't think so. Does it encourage you better than the first? I hope so coz that's what I say to myself all the time. Doing so, I do not lie to myself and it helps keep my focus on God, not on myself.
