Lent

Talk about anything in here.

I've never actually heard of Lent. I've never observed it either. But I do fast on sundays but I can't go on for long because I get so sick if I haven't ate anything for awhile.

You haven't heard of Lent and you haven't observed it? Gasp... (sorry, I felt this had to be said).

EDIT: Why did I write the rest of this? I'm deleting it, as I feel it didn't accomplish any purpose.

try replacing your meat diet (as of lent) with an all seafood diet, basically the bible doesn't forbade on eating fish on good friday or anyother day of lent.

Yep, never heard of it. Because I've grew up in a denomination where I was taught you don't observe aything they said not to. It's very strict denomination. But now that I found out I'm jewish and going back to my roots. God is leading me to find out a alot of things my denomination does wrong. I still belive in Jesus so I would be called a Messianic Jew. Anyway I've just been dealing with alot of stuff since finding my jewish roots. But anyway never heard of lent till now.

I ate a fish burger with a piece of lettuce on it today. That was a big step for me.

Pardon me, Benu, I didn't mean to say that it was shocking you hadn't heard of Lent. I very much respect that path you have taken. My post was just meant to be funny, in that it would be basically impossible to have not heard of Lent and also observe it. Sorry about the miscommunication.

I don't do lent at all, and I treat Easter as a fun holiday. I'm actually a Christian that goes to a Curch of Christ. I believe that God said the only special day is Sunday, on which we take the Lord's Supper to remember that Jesus died to save us from our sins. But don't think I'm not very religious. I'm actually a very faithful Christian. :)

soooo, we've gone a few weeks into "lent",
which means by the way "spring", a time of renewal,
is everyone keeping up?
Today, i almost ate a huge portion of meaty lasagna
which it being Good Friday, was not my intention
but several friends at the table quickly pointed out
the error of my food selection, now that I think about it
we don't always realize how lucky we are to have peop;e to
help us in fasting,
Jesus was alone all forty of those days in the dessert
except the presence of the devil and temptation
(not good cheedleaders at all in spiritual matters  )
I can't count the number of times I've broken fast
or forgotten to abstain throughout the years, but
now I can't help but think of Christ, who was so very
succesful in this endevour, lets' remember that Lent
is to renew our faith in Jesus and let Christ reshape us
in His image, for, as he was then baptized and annointed
with the Holy Spirit for all of his trial and tribulation
so we too, will be annointed in Easter
Vash: In the end...he just couldn't kill a man in cold blood. His daughter's murder goes unpunished. Call him weak, but...it saved both of us.

I've gotten used to it, but I could have a much greater challenge coming up...

First, the 30 Hour Famine. Simply, not eating thirty hours and helping people instead.
Then, a hunger meal (100+ people are divided like the world for a meal: one or two get gourmet, some get rice and beans, and most just get rice). This will actually matter, being after the 30 Hour Famine...
But lastly, something I'm not sure I want to undertake: the Week of Rice. It is to help us remember that most people in the world eat only rice every day. Here in America we have so many options it is easy to forget, to become complacent. The challenge is exactly what it sounds like: eating nothing but one variety of rice for an entire week. Ouch.
