President Ford dead at 93

Postby mitsuki lover » Wed Dec 27, 2006 11:58 am

Former President Gerald Ford died overnight at the age of 93.He will be remembered for two things:Restoring calm to America after Watergate and also for the controversy of pardoning Nixon. He will also be remembered as a kind gentleman(in every sense of the word)who was also a good and decent man.
Evidently he wasn't the type of hold a grudge because he and Jimmy Carter became fast friends after Carter beat him in the '76 election.
What will be missed most though about Ford is his ability to make friends from all political persuasions.
RIP.
We need more like him.

President Ford, by the accounts I've heard, was an honest and up-front man. He was chosen to replace Spiro Agnew after he resigned for just that reason. Nixon wanted a man who was above reproach, who the people could trust following Agnew's scandal.

The cynic in me would say honesty is a rare commondity in Washington today. I'm not sure that I would rank him as one of our better presidents, but the country as a whole would be much better off with a lot more people like him leading us.

Rest in Peace, Mr. President. You did good by us.

If it weren't for his "There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe."gaffe in the
'76 debates he might have been elected President in his own right. But I think that's another thing that was loveable about him,his gaffes and pratfalls. They made him
come across as very human. In fact they say that after playing a parody of Ford on SNL Chevy Chase actually met him and got to be friends with him.

Yeah, that line was why my mom voted for Carter. Of course, she was smart enough to regret it later.
