Can a Woman's Purse Make People Sick?

Postby ashfire » Wed Dec 06, 2006 4:09 pm

Last night I was watching the local news station and they did a report on why women should clean the outside of their purses.
Consider where most women would put their purses when then go to work or the ladies room, on the floor or under the desk.
What happens is that the purse will pickup dirt, disease and things you don't want to think of. The one thing is that when they get home they will place the purse on kitchen counters and tables or surfaces that most would want to be clean.
Mothers with children have been found to have the dirtist purses and one woman who went into bars it was found she had things on her purse that could really make someone sick.
So what was said to do. Clean the outside when possible, hung it on a hook under a desk or on a stall door in a ladies room (Be sure to keep it at a angle that someone can't steal it). Just put it someplace it will stay clean.
I have also heard this. What would be the most unclean item in a hotel or motel room? A TV remote.

I thought the most unclean item was the doorknob of the bathroom. Guess I was wrong.

Hehe, in my house, I think the most unclean thing would be the handheld solitare game in the bathroom next to the toilet...

Ew. >_< Yes, I think it could be. :P

While the outside of purses may be dirty, sometimes the inside can make me feel sick. I may be female, but I'm still not found of an overpowering blast of smell from perfume, hairspray and other cosmetic products.

You're female? Really? ;) (Note; by insulting my twin sister I acknowledge I am simultaneously insulting myself).

Wow. This information sure gives you a another lot of reasons to lock yourself in a sterilised room and never go outside.

How about you just make your boyfriend/husband hold your purse for you while you're in the restroom? XD

Anyway, I, personally, am not gonna worry about it too much. If it was that big of a deal, I'd be catching some horrific disease all the time. Gotta give that ol' immune system a workout. XP

Come to think of it, I never put my purse on the floor of a public restroom. 'Cause that's just gross. I usually hang it on the hook thingy on the door, or if there isn't one, I put it on top of the toilet paper dispenser.

However, I do usually put my purse on the floor beside the table when we go out to eat (provided we get stuck at a table instead of the much-preferred booth). So maybe I should figure out another place to put it in those situations...like hanging it on the back of the chair or something...

I don't carry a purse...rahter I carry an Full Metal Alchemist messenger bag... and I either leave it where my work station is or my deski while I am in class...or I put it on the hookie thing.

My mom never puts her purse on the counters or the table because of that. She gets mad at us if we set it there.
K. Ayato wrote:I thought the most unclean item was the doorknob of the bathroom.
Actually the dirtiest part of a bathroom is the floor. Second is the faucet (think about it). Experts recommend drying your hands off before turning the faucets off, and then using the paper towel to turn the faucet off with.

Guess what? Blow dryers are less sanitary then paper towels.

Guess what the cleanest area of the bathroom is? The toilet seat. No joke. The doorknob is the second cleanest.

I'd heard that fact. Bleh. My purse almost never goes on the floor. At restaurants if I'm at a table, I hook my leg through the strap so that the purse hangs just under my knee - it has a short strap. lol

Even more clean is the toilet seat in the first stall of the bathroom. The most dirtiest seat is the one right after it.

Because everyone thinks that everyone else used the first one.

It's hard to look cool and manly when you're holding your girlfriend's,sister's,mother's or wife's purse.

I wouldn't know anything about that. I would think it would be very hard to do while thinking about it.

I would think the chances of getting ill are pretty remote. The things/people you touch with your hands are probably a lot more likely.

Hmm... I might make my brother hold one one day just for that very reason. XD . Go the embarrassment factor! j/k.

I always thought because people felt more comfortable knowing that they were next too another toilet stall, so that not many people would be next to them. And the fact that they're farther away from people.

Eh, I don't think it's that big a deal. I mean, it's not like the chances are very great anybody will think it's yours'.

I feel the same way about the old joke of men being embarrassed to buy feminine hygiene products for their wives, girlfriends, daughters, etc. I mean, nobody's going to think they're for you, so why sweat it?

I posted the info about dirty purses on a couple of fire and ems forums and I got one responce. "Great now little old ladies best weapon is now a biological weapon." I can see it now a mugger in the hospital Doctor " Sir you have come down with a very serious case of E-coli and a few other diseases how did you get them. Very badly beaten mugger " I tried to mugg a old lady and a few of her friends beat me with their purses." :dizzy:

Hahahaaa, fantastic. If I wasn't enough of a germophobe already, now I'll have to start carrying clorox wipes to clean my purse every other day. ;) Perhaps I'm more like this than I thought I was when I drew it. XDD

Yes, you can. If you keep getting hit in the head too long can really make a guy sick.

I guess when you think of things in a old lady's purse that might would when used as a weapon could cause some damage.
