It was announced in an email so I won't repost it, but you can click the Toon Zone link if you want.

No dub bashing, please.

I'm sure lots will be happy^^ I heard on ANN some thought that since Prince of Tennis and Marchen Awakens Romance will be on Toonami, the possiblity of One Piece getting booted off. Looks like their wishes were granted... But although they are stop making the dub, it isn't certain that they will actually let another company buy it off them. Maybe, dunno.

Most will probably assume it had nothing to do with the dubbing and it was the overall plot idea that threw people off.

I think they will still show up until where they stopped making it.

Correct, though that would be the decision of Toei and not 4Kids.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. I think it's still somewhat early to make a complete celebration.
Also, Toei has been known to make screwy decisions before regarding their franchises (also see Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya).

Ideally, they would hand over the One Piece rights to Funimation or Viz Media, and we would get an actual accurate dub of the series.
In the worst case scenario, 4kids will sit on the license until it expires and/or Toei will pull One Piece out of North America entirely.

Actually, my thought is that the e-mail in the link doesn't have to mean they're actually giving up on One Piece. He could have given that response even though they intend to continue dubbing at a later date. I'll remain skeptical until I see something more formal and direct.

I'm going with MasterDias and uc on this. I would, naturally, love for this to be true, but I'll wait and see how it goes before rejoicing.

They could continue later, but it would be stupid on their part.

People are predicting 4Kids' TV division may fold in 2007.

I saw an item at Anime News Service where they said Toonami was going to be adding Mar and Prince of Tennis to the regular line up after having streamed them.
So if true then I guess both Bobobo-bobo-bobo and One Piece may soon be gone.

Not Bobobo. If any show will fall with One Piece it will be Zatch Bell.

Yea, verily, there was much rejoicing.

And Animus was thrilled at how appropriate this was as a 300th post.

Hahaha congrats on the 300th post, Animus. ^^

I'm going try to not to restate anything already said in this thread - so my opinion is just cautiously optimistic. I'm not a big fan of the TV version of One Piece and personally enjoy the manga more anyway.

Heh. For the record, that still isn't allowed, but there's no reason that while discussing this people can't include their opinion. Just so long as that isn't the only reason for their post.

Haven't they already taken one break of several months? I can easily seem them doing it again.

Looks like this isn't a break, this is for good. Yahshouzoid on Arlong Park broke the news there, and not believing everything she reads, Quexinos sent her own email asking if the dub was over, and if another company would get the license. This was the response:
I would recommend that you direct your inquiries to Toei Animation. At this point 4Kids does not plan to adapt any further episodes of the series.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Roz

The difference between this and last time is that this time the company is admitting they have no plans to dub further episodes. If this was a break of several months like last time, I would think they would say "We are currently on hiatus" or "The dub has been delayed" or simply "We are taking a break." The fact that they themselves say they have no plans to adapt any further episodes, implies to me this is the end of the 4Kids dub.

Now, as to whether they'll allow another company to pick up the license, or sit on the rights until 2009...that remains to be seen.

EDIT: However, the phrase "at this point" doesn't completely rule out that they may dub more episodes later. Still, it would be a poor business move, so I can't see them doing that.

Well, this is definetly good news, then, though how good will remain to see, depending no whether someone else can get the rights.

I thought their rights expire in 2008, not '09. o_O

I'm of two minds on Prince of Tennis while I am looking forward to seeing an actual sports centered anime I also have to admit that tennis isn't my cup of tea,and so would have rather perferred something like Rebound or Princess Nine.
Then again it does look like Toonami is finally going after some more serious type
anime for the 10 o'clock hour. Now if only AS could find something to go with it at
11 o'clock.
I think the success of Naruto thus far probably is one of the reasons for them deciding to go ahead with bringing POT and Mar on to the schedule.

Was that refering to Sanji though?

They should've done this after releasing that COMPLETELY RIDICULIOUS US theme song....that alone should've warranted taking it off the airwaves.

From what I heard, the original dub of One Piece wouldn't be suitable for Toonami....I wonder if it were redubbed, would it air on Adult Swim???

That's the kind of e-mail I was looking for (though ANN announcements help too). And I agree with you - they're probably not going to pick up the series again. I think that "at this point" is a semantic habit in order to leave open future possibilities but not something that seriously implies they'll continue.

Hm? I doubt that. Unless the anime of One Piece increased the bloodiness of the violence from the manga it is pretty standard shonen fare at about the level of Naruto.

It will work for Toonami easily enough, especially since Naruto is airing there at TV-PG with a minimal amount of edits.

Probably. And I didn't think about it at the time, but as someone else pointed out, the fact that 4Kids says to ask Toei about it more or less means it's out of their hands.
Unless the anime of One Piece increased the bloodiness of the violence from the manga it is pretty standard shonen fare at about the level of Naruto.

It decreased. I'd give examples but they're more or less spoilers, but I can safely say the anime is not as bloody as the manga. I think it would safely fit on Toonami.

Viz should totally take over on the license.

Is this considered gravedigging since there have been so many posts since then? I just gotta say, that is very true... Toei is worse than any of the American companies... *points to his avatar*

I'm a big Sailormoon fan and I really wanted classic, but I won't likely be able to get it for a long time... Until the copyright and trademark is dead... Then I'm sure some American company will buy it up again, to sell to 40 year old anime fans who got their start on the show...

So, basically, One Piece is the Sailormoon of this generation, or rather decade? That's pretty sad... I've never been a Shounen Jump fan, but I do feel for jilted fans.
