Hi, me again. I'm here to complain about 2006's titles which have increased exponentially (up to this year they would have 1-2 titles / year but now they have 6-7 maybe more)

Two more I can't remember the titles of. (BTW while some of these ARE stated 17+ some ARE stated 13+ which is not exactly good)

Ok, there is more, I just stated the obvious. I'm a student' so I don't have time to watch all that stuff and I mostly skim through it (yeah, I hunt bad anime and good anime, GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT PUNK? )

So may the good anime one day come back and may the perv anime dissapear (it's not just perv but also annoying).

Oh, and for you not to think that I'm 'in the box' I did enjoy DearS (not really suitable for kids). It was perv, ecchi, etc. But it was fun because it was wierd without being offending to anyone in particular.

I guess I just don't get what you're trying to say. 6-7 shows out of 100+ is hardly a 'favorite theme', and while I don't particularly feel like going back and looking through previous years in an attempt to somehow prove you wrong (partially because I'm lazy, and partially because I just don't see your point), I seriously doubt the increase from last year to this year is really all that large.

Besides, you have to realize WHY Christianity is held in such suspicion in Japan. Read up on Japanese history during the Sengoku period (especially during Nobunaga Oda's life), and perhaps you'll begin to understand why the Japanese aren't too fond of Christianity.

Does that make it right for them to bash it? No, it doesn't. So while I'm with TriezGamer here on disbelief that Christian bashing is somehow rampant in anime, even if it was there is a reason behind it. A wrong reason, but a reason nonetheless.

Something else that just came to my mind -- If you're going to claim you have proof, provide proof. You've listed the titles from 2006 that you feel are offensive, that's fine. What about other years?

Your criteria are also very loosely defined -- as far as I can tell, you've defined 'homosexuality', 'christianity bashing', and 'dark witchcraft' as your criterion. But to what degree must these elements exist to satisfy your conditions? And what exactly is 'dark' witchcraft? Is not witchcraft, by it's very nature, dark?

If taken to the extremist viewpoint, Cardcaptor Sakura could satisfy all three conditions. There simply isn't any way to objectively look at the situation with this approach.

Additionally, there's also other factors to consider, such as the total number of anime released within a given year.

2005 had 219 titles released. 2006, if all current plans for December are fulfilled, will have a total of 295. That's an increase of nearly 35%.

Somehow, I don't see this thread lasting very long.

Anyways, I pretty much agree with what's been said in previous posts. And yes, I'd like to see this "proof", too. Sure, there are plenty of anime out there that aren't edifying, but that doesn't make all anime "bad". I really don't feel like jumping into a whole argument right now (in fact, I'd prefer that no argument took place at all), but...was this thread really necessary to make?

Like America, Japan will provide pulpy smut that shouldn't even be considered art from time to time. There are other shows that use controversial elements for better storytelling, engrossing plots and characters, and even fresh original concepts. Take Haruhi Suzumiya, a story about a girl that one character goes so far as to call God. It is not known exactly what Haruhi really is at the end of the series, only that she is not aware of her existence-altering powers. What it does show though is that we all see different things as different concepts. Take the actual God for example, some people believe there is just THE God, others believe in Allah, others believe in deities, others believe in inner peace, but what matters is not the figures, but THE MESSAGES!

No one wants to be in a discussion centered on complaining. Well, I shouldn't say no one.

I have to complain about drugs, porn, violence, humanism, and other things as well. Problem is, no one cares.

Kaemmerite did make a good point as far as why the Japanese aren't fond of Christianity.

An anime acknowleging our belief system or supporting it is a rare find.

=/ there's always going to be entertainment you don't agree with - the best thing you can do is steer yourself away. Complaining isn't going to solve anything, especially when you have relatively little backing behind your complaints.

Well, since I doubt there's anything else constructive to say, I'm going to go ahead and lock this thread. Eye776, I'm sure you didn't have any ill intentions in creating this thread, believe me, all the junk this world calls "entertainment" bothers the rest of us just as much as it does you. Unfortunately, that kind of junk can be found in every form of entertainment-- TV, books, movies, music-- not just anime. We may not always have much we can do about it, but what we can do is choose to honor God in our own lives and affect this world for Christ as much as we can. You never know how God may choose to use you!
