CAA Tournament v. 3.2: Advance Wars

Postby Slater » Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:22 pm

Preamble: Ok, first of all I apologize for the past two tournaments (from now on refered to as Tournament 3.0 and 3.1). Random CAA server downtime killed both before they got very far along.

But fear not! For version 3.2 is coming along, and hopefully it will manage a lot better than last time.

The tournament will be held off-site, but unlike the Chess Tournament, it doesn't require that both players be online at the same time! No longer do we have to worry about timezones and stuff, because it will be a little Turn-Based game called Advance Wars.

The tournament will be hosted on AWBW, which is the very best way to play this game online. It even has tutorials on how to play in their wikipedia, so even those of you who haven't played the game before should be able to get up to speed pretty quick!

Hopefully this will be a big tournament. There will be some sort of prize system involved here... I'm still thinking it through, but don't worry... it should end up being something nice for the grand champion here :)
(note: no, I won't be giving out raw money.)

The fact that there will be a prize associated with this tournament means I need to put a restriction on it. Sorry to our newer members, but anyone who has registered on this site after November 18 will not be allowed in this tournament. Maybe next time!

Registration: A bit more complicated than the usual registration form. The game has multiple options to chose from, so they will be decided by good-old democratic methods. Besides putting down your CAA account name and AWBW account name (which is free to make), please select things like initial funds, fog-of-war, etc that you see on this form.
The one thing that I will choose is the maps that will be played on.
You may select any CO you want. Just note that you are stuck with that one CO through the entire tourny!

Registration Form:
CAA Name:
AWBW Name:
CO to use:
Fog of war: On/Off
Weather: Clear/Rain/Snow/Random
Starting Funds: 0-30000 (must be multiple of 1000)
Capture: OFF (no capture-victories for this tourny, except of course the HQs)
Funds Per Turn: 500-9500 (must be multiple of 500)

Oh, and registration ends on Friday, 12:00 PM PST!

Registration ends.... fiday december 8th.... right? ^_^

I will definately join. Advance Wars is just great, and AWBW is a great site to. ;)

CAA Name: kaji
AWBW Name: kaji
CO to use: *Map dependant*
Fog of war: Either is fine with me
Weather: Clear
Starting Funds: 0
Capture: OFF
Funds Per Turn: 1000

Also, I think there should be certain CO banns for this tournament. Kanbei Hatchi, Colin and especially Grit are just WAY to overpowered.

Even if this tourny doesnt get going, please feel free to PM me here or on AWBW if you would like to play, I would be more than happy to have a match. ^_^
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
