what makes Dora soooo popular?

No really, I'm curious^^ Seems like one of those little kids shows that if I was still a Kindergardener or whatever I'd watch and be like "meh" (I was such a couch potatoe when I was little and watched all sorts of still I hardly even cared for, but still watch them :/) I especially would've have doen around buying the merchandise etc.

At work, I seem to ALWAYS be selling Dora stuff :/ Little kids crying because their mom's won't get them the second Dora shirt they wanted. And I asked the parents/grandparents and they always say "she LOVES Dora!" I remember back in my days, like everyone watched Seasame Street, but I never remember anyone so enthralled in it :/

So... *scratches head* anyone have any ideas?^^ Babysitters/people with yougner siblings, maybe?

She's bilingual. That's why. Kids like bilingual characters.

Only there are better bilingual programs directed toward the younger kids out there.

Hmmm i have no clue really! i think its kinda dumb.... i mean i guess it helps you learn spanish... but i always thought it was sooo slow and boring!
but yeah i babysit boys so i wouldnt really know... seriously i've never babysitted a girl! haha i just realized that!
so yeah they think dora is dumb too!

Oh, there were Sesame Street fanatics. Do the words "ice show" ring a bell? The merchandising machine is more sophisticated now, but the game is pretty old.

i'm not completely sure why they like it. but i think(at least some) little kids think its better than some of the other trash out there(the kid i baby sit only likes it because she has a purple talking back pack....) but i am clue less like the rest of you

I totally agree. I remember once at work some girl that looked like she was 8, wanted a pair of Family Guy boxers and when I rang them through she was like "my parents let me watch it!" sounding all proud. I was just like "oh..." Of course even when I watched teenish cartoons (just cause they were cartoons) when I was little, I didn't even GET what was so bad about it or anything :/ But anyways...

That show is really repetative.

I don't know why people like this show. I think it's mind-numbingly repetitive and not very entertaining at all. At least Blue's Clues was a cute show. This show is just irritating.

I think it's because she bilingual, and that children start watching when they are 1 or 2 years old so they grow up with her everyday the first few years of their lives and get very attached. I have 2 neices and it was all about Dora come birthday #2.

Aaw Don't get me started! The very fist time I saw that show. I pointed at the tv and said to my brother. "If I was five years old that show would have insulted my intelligence.

Geesh Its a toddler/preschool show not design for those beyond 5 to actually enjoy it. ^_^
However when it comes to preschool shows, I think Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow and Gullah Gullah Island, those shows were top notch. I still like and approved on those shows.

Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow were/(are) like, two of the best shows ever for kids, along with Mr. Rogers (And yes, I'm being dead serious XD). All of the children's shows come on in the morning now, rather than the late afternoon like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers did. Then again, maybe they do and I just don't pay attention to it anymore. XD

Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow are great. seriously. So are Winnie the Pooh and Little Bear. Lazy Town is cool too. ha. :lol:

I like the ideas and goals of Lazy Town, the same way I like the ideas and goals of Seasame Street, Reading Rainbow and Gullah Gullah Island.

Lazy Town- encourages kids to play, have fun and do something besides sitting on their butts.

Seasame Street- taught kids a variety of lessons about learning and life.

Gullah Gullah Island- a strong focus of family and morals.

Reading Rainbow-express how important it was to read, and use your imigination. I think that show is what inspired me to read recreationally and later write.

Dora and Blue are good in their respect for kids they help children learn counting principles, basic spanish, shapes, colors, and basic recollecton skills. However they can not compare to Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow or Gullah Gullah Island Then again maybe it was because I could relate to the shows at the time.

*sigh* I have no idea.My name is Dara and it's so close to Dora.There were times in my life where people teased me about that.What I hate the most is when substitute teachers would mispronounce my name on the attendance sheet by saying "Dora",when it clearly says Dara on it.And of course people giggle and laugh about it.In fifth grade I had a gym teacher who called me,"Dara-the-explorer".But I wouldn't worry about it too much now.So what if people laugh at the fact of our names being close by one letter?Either way my name is Dara and nothing will change that. :grin:
